Record number apply early decision

A record high number of people — 1,856 — applied early decision to Dartmouth this year. The number of early applicantsis more than 10 percent higher than last year’s figure.

This marks thefirst time in two years that more women thanmen applied early decision, dean of admissions and financial aid Maria Laskaris said.

Admissions officers will release early decision resultsin December.

The Class of 2016 set the previous record, with 1,801 early decision applicants. That year, 465 were admitted.

Each year, students admitted early decision comprise about 40 percent of the incoming class.

Numbers regarding average standardized test scores, class ranks and racial and geographic makeup are unavailable because secondary school reports have yet to be fully processed, Laskaris said.
