Stevenson won 79 percent of the vote in the first round of balloting, soundly defeating opponent Terry Sluss, a former county commissioner, the Dispatch reported.
Stevenson is a resident of Brainerd, Minn., which is located in the 12th district. He will likely face either two-term Republican incumbent Paul Koering, or Republican candidate Paul Gazelka, previously the state representative from Brainerd, in the general election.
