The endowment dropped to $16.3 billion, with losses in investments and gifts, as well as operating budget distributions, according to a university press release. Yale's endowment provides approximately 42 percent of the university's operating budget. Sen. Christopher Dodd, D-Conn., and Sen Joseph Lieberman, I-Conn., named David Fein '82 among their four preferred candidates for the U.S. attorney post in the state, the Connecticut Law Tribune reported Monday. President Barack Obama will ultimately decide who fills the position. Fein is a former associate counsel to former President Bill Clinton and is a partner at the New Haven firm Wiggin and Dana. The senators also recommended acting U.S. Attorney Nora Dannehy, former New York supervisory assistant U.S. Attorney Edgardo Ramos and state Rep. William Tong, D-Stamford.
