Student Assembly committees are looking into whether the flat panel displays in Food Court could be put to better use and are making progress in overcoming the logistical hurdles to install a microwave in Novack Cafe, committee members said at Tuesday's Assembly meeting. At the meeting, the Assembly introduced a new policy committee, led by David Nachman '09, to "think about broader, more long-term college policies." The committee plans to investigate how to improve residential life education and how to include more student input in decisions about faculty tenure positions. The Assembly also made plans to collaborate with the International Student Association on events for the term.

Jay Kaplan '02 died on Dec. 25 after suffering a massive brain aneurysm, according to The Ithaca Journal. He had been on life support since Dec. 21. Kaplan "was one of the best and brightest and just a lovely human being," film and media studies professor James Brown said in an e-mail to The Dartmouth. While at Dartmouth, Kaplan acted in "Kiss and Tell," a 2002 production of DTV, a now defunct student-run television station at the College. After graduating, Kaplan worked in the media industry as an assistant to the directors of "Little Miss Sunshine" (2006). He also produced short films and commercials and worked closely with television producer and writer Erica Rivinoja, according to Brown. Kaplan is survived by his wife, Eleanor Seigler '01. The two met at Dartmouth and acted opposite each other in "Kiss and Tell," according to an article in The Dartmouth.
