Programming Board to host non-Greek events

Dartmouth students will partake in a wide range of programming events this weekend, in honor of Homecoming weekend. In addition to Saturday's football game and a number of parties at Greek organizations, student groups and Programming Board have planned a number of other activities for students this weekend.

The myriad of events scheduled will ensure that "everyone can find something to do to connect to Dartmouth this weekend," Eric Ramsey, director of the Collis Center and student activities, said.

Dartmouth Night will commence on the steps of Dartmouth Hall, immediately before the lighting of the bonfire, Ramsey said. The event is "a celebration of sports at Dartmouth" that includes students, alumni, faculty and staff, he added. Friday's festivities will also include a ceremony featuring President Wright, vice president for alumni relations David Spalding '76, president of the Alumni Council J.B. Daukas '84, co-captain of the football team Andrew Dete '09, and Becky Poskin '09, captain of the women's soccer team.

Programming Board will provide water, hot cocoa, pies and other concessions in Collis Common Ground for those students looking for a respite from the bonfire, according to programming chair Joey Dang '10. The refreshments will provide a safe place for students to to refuel and stay energized for the Bonfire festivities, Dang said. Programming Board will also be hosting a Midnight Breakfast in the Collis Center on Saturday and is co-sponsoring a concert by RJD2 at Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity that evening.

Other events include Fall Fling, an a capella show hosted by the Dodecaphonics, in honor of the group's 25th anniversary. The show will also feature the Dartmouth Cords and the Brown Derbies. The Dodecaphonics performance will include songs by a wide variety of artists and solos by Michelle Shankar '12 and Max Moran '12, according to the group's business manager Allie Miller '10.

The show will be the first performance for the Dodecaphonics' newest members, who were selected last month. Members of the Class of 2012 now comprise one third of the group, according to Miller.

The Dodecaphonics' performance will be recorded by AcapellaU, a national podcast of a capella music.

In addition to the football game, a number of other sporting events will take place over the weekend. Dartmouth's women's volleyball team will play Columbia University on Friday and take on Cornell University the following day.

On Saturday, the men's rugby team will take on the University of Connecticut, field hockey will host Yale University, and the women's rugby team will compete against Brown University. In addition, Dartmouth's men's and women's varsity soccer teams will take on the University of Pennsylvania.

The weekend will finish with a field hockey match against the University of Louisville on Sunday.
