Three weeks after Hanover Police received a complaint about the illegal dumping of a couch and a refrigerator on a private property on Goss Road, officers arrested an 18-year-old resident of Canaan, N.H., for the offense on charges of littering. Police have identified the area as a favorite spot for leaving unwanted items without going to the dump.
April 8, 3:02 a.m., West Wheelock Street
Hanover Police arrested a 22-year-old male, not a Dartmouth student, for driving under the influence and possession of drugs early Sunday morning. The Hanover resident was originally stopped for driving his green Toyota Tacoma truck with a broken taillight. Upon investigating, the officer immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol, and after conducting a series of sobriety tests he determined the individual to be intoxicated. Also present in the vehicle were an open container of beer and a mason jar containing what appeared to be marijuana. A court date for the case has been set for May 8.
April 8, 8:02 p.m., Hemlock Road
Hanover Police received the first report of a water outage Sunday evening at 8:02 p.m. Initial calls came from residents who live in higher elevations with complaints of no water pressure. Authorities soon discovered that the computer that operates the town's water system did not restart after a Saturday morning power failure and that the town had been relying on water stored in reserve tanks.
Police subsequently dispatched fire units to the College's heating plant to shovel water into the boiler to keep the plant running as other members of the fire department dealt with the problem.
