Book:
"John, Paul, George & Ben" by Lane Smith
Ah! Do you remember Lane Smith, the guy who made "The Stinky Cheese Man"? (If you didn't read this as a child, you = big-time loser). His latest contribution to children's lit is the oh-so-clever "John, Paul, George and Ben" -- a parallel of America's founding fathers to the Beatles (Ben Franklin stands in for Ringo!) The illustrations are (of course) cute and hilarious, and the text is clever enough to cause chuckles from the most lit-snobby of jerkfaces. - Meredith Fraser
Music:
"Summer Low" by Melody Club
Feel your ass sticking to that chair? We're in the midst of a summer low and everybody can feel it. On slow sticky nights, sugary swede-pop like this is the next best thing to a fat AC unit in your window. - John Beardsley

Movie:
"A Scanner Darkly"
This artsy sci-fi headtrip is hitting the West Leb movie theater on Friday. The film stars Keanu Reeves as a cop with multiple personality disorder who doesn't realize that the drug dealer he's tracking is actually himself. If you think the concept sounds mind-blowing, get this ?-- the whole movie was filmed in live-action then animated over in post-production to create a wacky visual experience that you won't find anywhere else. -AJ Fox
