Here's a style pointer so essential it deserves its own List: bags are beautiful things. You can wear the same one every day and not be guilty of laziness or lack of hygiene. A great bag can be a signature item or the cherry on the sundae that is your outfit. So go nuts.
- Functional and fun (not frumpy)
Boring bags are easy to fix: cover it in pins or sew on colorful patches. If you're artistic try fabric paint, but avoid the kindergarten project-look (not stylish). Tie on a scarf for a very classy look.
- Crossing the Green does not count as hiking
Why must "outdoorsy" = thru-hiker?
Apparently it's a status symbol to dangle a Nalgene from a camping/hiking/extreme outdoorsy bag, but there are a myriad of great backpacks for you card-carrying DOC-types. Break the anti-style stereotype. Try Nike, Swissgear, Eastpak, Victorinox etc.
- Gone are the days of the nerdy computer bag
There's no reason to tote the black, computer-nerd bag. These days, computer bags and sleeves are just another opportunity to be stylish. Check out www.redmaloo.com for an idea.
- Go big, go bright
Bright colors are actually neutral and make you look confident. In the case of shoulder bags, be big and bold.
