Softball wins 10th straight at Vermont

The Dartmouth softball team swept both games of a doubleheader with the University of Vermont for the second time this season, this time on the Catamounts' home field.

The wins extended the Big Green's win streak to ten games. Dartmouth improved its record to 27-11 (6-2 Ivy), adding to its school record of wins in a season.

In the first game, scoring began in the fourth inning when Jenny Harsey '01 slammed a solo homer. Then, in the top of the seventh, Kristin King '02 batted in Jen Madsen '02 with a single, bringing the lead to 2-0.

UVM went on a rally in the bottom of the seventh, but only managed to eke out a single run, making Dartmouth the victors by a score of 2-1.

Christine Quattrocchi '03 pitched the full game, allowing only four hits and shutting down the Catamounts' offense with 10 strikeouts. She has a school record of strikeouts in a single season (121).

In the night cap, pitcher Stacy Sanders '00 recorded another shutout, fanning five UVM batters and coming away with a 1-0 win.

The only score of the game came in the top of the sixth inning, when Chiara Grabill '01 hit an RBI single to bring in Sarah Damon '02.

The squad continues Ivy play tomorrow, when they will face the league-leading Harvard Crimson (9-0 Ivy). The doubleheader, which is a makeup for the April 27 rainout, will be played at Harvard.
