Riding takes fifth place in close battle at Mt. Ida College

The Big Green Equestrian team traveled to Mt. Ida College in Massachusetts this Saturday for their fourth show of the season. They finished fifth out of 13 schools in a very close race, with UVM taking first and Tufts University coming in second.

"Everyone really pulled together as a team this weekend to support each other through some tough draws and huge classes," co-Captain Cathy Emery '99 said. "Our team spirit was really what made the show a success."

Many riders gave winning performances that led to Dartmouth's strong finish. Catherine Strickler '99 took first place in her Intermediate Flat class, while Jenny Stevens '00 took a second place in Novice Fences. Adrian Loehwing '01 won second place in her Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter class and Jen Preston '00 took a red ribbon in her Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter class, as well. Third place finishes were added by Beth Shim '01 in Novice Fences, Megan Phillips '99 in Open Flat, Cathy Emery '99 in Intermediate Flat, Meg Donohue '00 in Novice Flat, and Key Fields '00 in Advanced Walk-Trot-Canter.

Co-Captain Phillips best summed up the team's season so far with this analysis.

"What I am most proud of this season is that our team is always the most spirited, supportive out there, and we have the most fun," she said. "Our intimidation factor is huge, not to mention that our riders are wracking up the wins on a consistent basis."

Next up, the Equestrian Team travels to Boston University on November 14th for their final Intercollegiate Horse Show Association show of the fall season.
