Cross-country teams run away with meets

The Big Green men's and women's cross country teams opened up their fall seasons on September 13th when they hosted the Dartmouth Invitational at the Hanover Country Club. Both teams came away with wins.

Boston University runners narrowly claimed top individual honors in both the men's and women's races.

The Terrier's Anne Kobalski finished the five kilometer women's course in 19:40, 6 seconds ahead of Dartmouth's co-captain Jenna Rogers '98, while Kobalski's teammate, Karl Rasmussen, ran the 8 kilometer men's course in 25:41.

Even without the individual wins, Dartmouth's depth allowed the squads to come away with the low team scores for the meet titles.

On the women's side, five of the top 11 runners wore green. Just behind Rogers, Anne Devlin '99 took third with a time of 19:57 while two freshmen checked in just over the 20-minute mark. Erin Dromgoole '01 clocked a 20:21 and Kelly Keene '01 finished in 20:33. Margie Van Orden '00 finished 11th with 20:56.

Dartmouth's winning team score was 28. The University of Massachusetts took second with a 46, BU third with 70, and the University of Massachusetts-Lowell finished fourth with 115.

For the men, Dartmouth claimed three of the top five spots as Ryan Padilla '00 ran 25:53, one second behind the second place finisher from Brandeis.

Parker Pruett '01 took a fourth in his first collegiate appearance, running 26:01. Aaron Schumacher '98 completed the trio, clocking 26:06. Garrett Jensen '99 finished 9th at 26:27 and Mike Regan '00 was tenth with a 26:29.

The men won the meet handily with a score of 31. Brandeis finished a ways back with 98, and Williams was third with 104 points.
