Women's tennis swept by Brown, Yale

The women's tennis team dropped to 8-9 overall as they were swept by Brown (8-1) and Yale (6-3) on the road this weekend. The Big Green now stand at 3-3 in the Ivy League.

Against the 43rd ranked team in the nation in the Brown Bears, there was little the Big Green could do as they lost 8-1.

Brown, who is 6-0 in the Ivy League, will play Harvard for the Ivy title later this week.

Dartmouth's sole victory came at number three doubles where the freshmen tandem of Michelle Bray and Jennifer Lange won in a tie-breaker, 9-8.

The rest of the afternoon, though, proved to be sour for the Big Green as it lost five of its singles matches in straight sets.

Sophomore Sarah Anderson forced a three-setter as she was downed 7-5, 4-6, 3-6 by Leela Raju.

On Saturday, the Big Green lost a tight match to the Yale Bulldogs, 6-3.

Anderson and captain Kallie Buehler '97 combined for all three points on the afternoon.

Buehler continued her excellent senior season with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at

number three singles.

At number six singles Anderson pulled out a 7-6, 6-2 match.

After a close first set, Anderson found her game and demolished her opponent with ease.

Buehler and Anderson combined for an 8-5 win in doubles as well.

After the match, Anderson cited mental fatigue as the cause for the narrow defeat. "It was disappointing for us to lose to Yale," she said, "especially since we had the talent to win the match. We weren't as mentally tough as we should have been and that made a big difference in the final result."

Despite a tough weekend, Coach Chris Kerr's squad can attempt to pull off an upset against Ivy League powerhouse Harvard on Wednesday.

If the Big Green can defeat the Crimson, they will finish with a winning record in the Ivies.

At 8-9, Dartmouth has more than tripled last season's win total.
