Women's field hockey overcomes UNH 2-1

After pounding Siena 9-0 Monday, the Big Green field hockey team kept on their now two-game winning streak yesterday afternoon, defeating the University of New Hampshire 2-1.

While this match proved a bit more trying for the Dartmouth women, the Big Green dominated the Wildcat's end of the field as they outshot UNH 30-8.

Weze Shorts '99 knocked in her fifth goal of the season with 9:52 remaining in the first half to give Dartmouth a 1-0 lead. Shorts' goal came off an assist from freshman standout Lauren Scopaz.

But shortly after, UNH responded to the Big Green offense with a score of its own. Kristen Tarrusso took a pass from Kristen Diamond and knocked in a shot just three minutes later to make the score 1-1.

The game remained tied going into halftime, but shortly into the second half, the Big Green reasserted their dominance as Sarah Sedwick '98 scored the game-winning goal, making the score 2-1.

Kendra Kosko '99 appeared in the goal for Dartmouth, as she only was forced to make three saves during the game. But UNH keeper Mary Pearsall had her hands full, as she stopped 20.

The win boosted Dartmouth to 6-4 overall. The Big Green return to Chase Field Saturday when they take on the competitive University of Connecticut. Game time is 12:00 p.m.
