Brown sweeps heavyweight crew

The men's heavyweight crew team traveled down to Providence, R.I. this past weekend to square off against the mighty Brown Bears and were swept in all four races.

The varsity boat lost a heartbreaker as it ended up falling to the Bears by a mere six-tenths of a second.

Brown pulled out to an early lead, stretching it to three seats at the 500 meter mark. By the 1,000 meter mark, however, the Big Green had caught up.

The back and forth battle continued as the Bears once again jumped out to a substantial advantage, holding nearly a boat length lead at the 1,500 meter mark.

The Dartmouth crew never gave up, as it kicked into high gear and began regaining ground on Brown, one seat at a time.

Unfortunately for the men in green, it was too little, as Brown maintained its steady stroke and held on for the victory.

The junior varsity boat had a full boat length lead on the Brown Bears at the halfway mark and had victory firmly within its grasp, but let it slip away as the Bears made a late surge and caught the Big Green at the line, for a one second win.

Both freshman boats were beaten soundly as the Brown boats jumped out to early leads in both races and maintained those leads for the entire race.

Next up for the Big Green heavyweights is a return to the friendly waters of the Connecticut River as they host Wisconsin and MIT tomorrow.
