The men's and women's track teams competed this past Saturday at the Florida State Invitational. Both teams held their own against competitors, qualifying members for later meets.
In the men's division, Lane Burks '97 and Adam Nelson '97 brought home wins for the Dartmouth Big Green.
Burks went 48-6 1/2 to win the triple jump. He also took second in the long jump with a jump of 23-11 1/2.
Nelson was back after taking off the winter season to work at home. He returned in perfect form, however, winning the discus with a throw of 178-2. In addition, he finished as a runner-up in the shotput with a throw of 57-3.
Two more juniors, Alex Ghanotakis and Steve Clark, placed well in their events.
Ghanotakis followed Nelson in the discus coming in second. He also placed in the hammer, and took third overall.
Clark took second place in the high jump. His jump at 6-8 1/4 earned him this place.
Finally for the men's team, freshman Don Conrad came in second in the 10,000 meters for a run of 30:42.31.
All of Dartmouth's competitors did well enough to qualify for the IC4As later in the season on the weekend of May 17.
In the women's division, co-Captain Amy Winchester '96 took second place in the shotput. Her throw of 48-5 1/4 gave her provisional, rather than outright, qualifying status for the NCAAs in late May.
Winchester also came in fourth in the discus with 145-2.
Both teams continue their seasons next weekend at the Tufts Invitational.
