The Dartmouth

Rugby clubs continue to dominate

The women's rugby team upheld its undefeated record last weekend as the young Big Green squad slaughtered Division One Northeastern Conference League rival Brown 35-0.

Dartmouth, now 5-0 overall and 1-0 in the League, scored early in the contest with a try by Dawn Elliott '96. Soon after, Elliott would connect with Meg Blakey '98 who powered into the tryzone with the second try of the game.

Before the first half would close, though, the Big Green would strike again when Captain Jenny Bentwood '96 cut through the Brown defense to widen the halftime score to 21-0.

"I think everyone is really excited about the season," Captain Elisabeth Kann '96 said. "It's amazing how people are coming together and playing together so well."

Dartmouth's offensive onslaught continued into the second half when aggressive forward play translated into two more tries for the Big Green. After dominating scrumdowns throughout the game, the forwards' efforts paid off as flanker Zib Rybicki '96 captured a loose ball on the Brown tryline after Dartmouth drove the Brown pack on a five-meter scrum.

The Big Green concluded the day with a try scored by winger Beth Haas '98 who sped down the pitch after receiving a pass from Kann.

Fullback Carolyn Hall '98 was 5-5 on the day with conversion kicks making the final score 35-0. Hall is now a perfect 15-15 for the season.

"It's exciting to watch everyone come together like they have been," Kann said.

The women ruggers will continue their season this Saturday with a League match at Boston College.
