Field Hockey goes 1-1 on weekend

The Dartmouth field hockey team fell to Pennsylvania last Saturday 3-1 but came back on Sunday and defeated La Salle University, 6-0.

The loss to Penn puts Dartmouth's Ivy record at 0-1 and leaves its overall record at 3-3.

Although Dartmouth outshot Penn 14-8, the team was not able to prevent the Quakers from scoring. During the first half, Penn controlled the offense, scoring twice. Cara Philben and Sue Quinn made the score 2-0 at halftime.

Early into the second half, Penn scored again off a penalty corner. The Big Green answered back with 10 minutes remaining when Kathleen Hickey '96 netted a shot past Penn keeper Sara Dunn.

Dunn came up with seven saves while Lauren Demski '96 stopped five shots in the Big Green net.

"We really went hard whole game, but just didn't capitalize on all the changes we got," Demski said. "We stepped it up after Hickey's goal. It was so hard to get out of 3-0 deficit, but we didn't give up."

After losing to top-ranked Penn, Dartmouth bounced back on Sunday and beat La Salle University. The Big Green outshot La Salle 30-1

"During the La Salle game we just kept scoring,"Demski said. "We had great passing combos and made improvements as a team."

Even though the Big Green lost their first Ivy game, the team realizes that it has many more opportunities to win.

"We've only played six games out of the entire season," Demski said. "We still could win the last five of our Ivy games. It's a very competitive league, and someone could easily knock off Penn. We've got to keep going and keep fighting."

The Big Green will resume Ivy play this Saturday when they travel to New Haven and take on Yale at 11:00 a.m.
