To the Editor:
For the fourth time now, I am looking out upon the half-completed tower of wood, soon to be fire. Tonight the bonfire seems clearer to me, as I struggle for a perception of what my school represents.
This bonfire tower is a symbol of me, a symbol of us. These are the resources we have as a community, this is what we chose to do with them. This is the image we project outward to the community around us. This is "Dartmouth Night". This is all the best that Dartmouth has to represent and give to the world.
Will we, as a community, rally to heat the homes in Enfield or Canaan? Will we crowd into the lecture halls to build our knowledge up toward the sky? Will we burn with the pursuit of solutions to the problems we face today and tomorrow? Will we break from the endless circles we have been running around the symbol of our conspicuous consumption? Will we, as individual members of the community who recognize that there are possibly more awesome things to throw our time and effort into, be silent at this time?
This is our night.
This is our choice.
