One of the youngest fadistas in history to be nominated for the Dutch Edison Award, Moura, set to take the stage tonight in Spaulding Auditorium, is one of the most prestigious musicians in Portugal. Moura has collaborated with the Rolling Stones, Gilberto Gil and Prince, and in 2011 won a Portuguese Golden Globe Award, reached the top of the charts of both Billboard and Amazon.

Tomorrow and Friday, look no further than Loew Auditorium for your fix of weekend entertainment, from black bears on film to captivating animation. As part of their final projects, the film department's Advanced Animation and Introduction to Professional Videomaking classes will present 30-minute screenings of their student-produced works. The film department will unveil a series of animation shorts along with a collaborative music video featuring the Chicago band Terriers, set against idyllic New England winters. The screenings will take place Thursday at 7 p.m. in Loew Auditorium.

The concert will feature two major works of music: Prokofiev's third piano concerto and seventh symphony by Beethoven. Featuring a solo by pianist Cory Chang '13, it will not only highlight the DSO's talents as an orchestra, but showcase the formidable musical skills of Chang, orchestra manager and violinist Damaris Altomerianos '13 said.

The Black Arm Band, formed in 2006, is composed of two dozen artists and uses traditional indigenous instruments and dialects. Past shows include "Murundak," which focuses on protest music and "Hidden Republic," which looks at the future of Australia. The group will kick off its U.S. tour with a stop at the College.

Ghertner uncovers the lives of five fruitworkers, three of whom are undocumented illegal immigrants living in the U.S. Over the course of 10 years, Ghertner follows these women and their tribulations as mothers, sisters, immigrant workers and inhabitants of a country that Ghertner feels is denying them basic workers' rights.

Winter Carnival is an opportunity for the College community to get involved in various winter activities both out in the snow and inside. Once the skis were put away and the last snowball was thrown, student performers moved indoors, broke out their dance moves and exercised their vocal cords at student shows that made this snowy weekend unforgettable to arts audiences.

To increase student participation in the performing arts, classical music student relations advisors at the Hopkins Center Julia Floberg '11 and Serena Nelson '12 created "Live Music Matters," a program funded by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation as part of the Hop's three-year national research effort. The campaign, which launched at the start of Winter term, aims to build audiences for campus performances, particularly those involving classical music by making music performances more relevant and exciting for the Dartmouth campus.

The Year of the Arts steering committee has partnered with the Dartmouth Centers Forum to invite students to apply for grants for Winter and Spring 2013. Students can request up to $4,000 in project proposals that encourage student engagement with the arts through workshops, discussions or performances.

"The Chalk Talk' series started back in 2003 when we had a lot of alumni coming back to campus for home football games, and we wanted to connect them with what was going on at the College and give them the classroom experience, so the Chalk Talk' was born from that," "Chalk Talk" Program Director Kate Barlow said. "Next year will be its 10th year, and we're focusing on engaging the alumni and also the local community in the intellectual life of the college."
