Despite being around a percent higher than the 2.9 percent tuition increase for the 2015-2016 academic year, experts say that the 3.8 percent increase in tuition, mandatory fees and room and board approved by the Board of Trustees for the 2016-2017 academic school year remains in line with national trends of rising costs for higher education.

The Upper Valley Aquatic Center will begin $3 million in renovations this summer, adding 8,000 square feet for a larger locker room, group exercise studio and physical therapy center. The additions will also feature natural light, open views and a fitness mezzanine that overlooks the fitness floor.

Hanover families joined Gerry Grimo and The East Bay Jazz Ensemble and the Dartmouth Swing Club at a Hopstop Family Show in Alumni Hall on Saturday morning. Families with small children crowded the colorful rug while others sat or stood in the back to enjoy the show.

Latin jazz bandleader and songwriter Gregorio Uribe will be headlining the Barbary Coast Jazz Ensemble in its 40th annual Winter Carnival concert this Friday. Joined by percussionists Jonathan Gómez from Colombia and Marcelo Woloski from Argentina, Uribe is rejoining the ensemble after performing with them in the 2013 Winter Carnival concert.

However, the Free State Project is a modern political migration organization seeking to relocate liberty-minded individuals to New Hampshire. On Tuesday, the project reached its goal of gathering 20,000 signers pledging to move to the Granite State within the next five years.

However, a discussion panel held at the Rockefeller Center on Tuesday, “Global Perspectives on HIV/AIDS,” was presented in conjunction with the U.S. premiere of Dada Masilo’s interpretation of “Swan Lake” at the Hopkins Center.

Republican presidential candidate Rand Paul visited the Salt Hill Pub in Hanover Saturday afternoon on his campaign stop. The Kentucky senator spoke to a crowd of around 125 students and Upper Valley residents while the restaurant proceeded with their normal lunch service — servers delivered food to patrons and a football game played in the background.

Bineshii Hermes-Roach ’17 first began drawing under the instruction of her father, a high school art teacher, who taught “mini-lessons” to her and her brother when they were children. Starting with simple pencil drawings, Hermes-Roach then moved onto charcoal, ink drawings and watercolor — the first three of the many mediums into which she would eventually expand her work.

Construction began last week on a new house community structure — one of two new temporary buildings planned to augment the new residential housing system. The buildings will provide extended space for programming and social interactions as part of the new undergraduate residential system.
