In letter to steering committee, Palaeopitus calls for transparency

The Palaeopitus senior society called on the “Moving Dartmouth Forward” presidential steering committee to increase transparency and better communicate with students. A letter sent Thursday night, signed by nearly 60 student leaders as of press time, suggested reforms like releasing preliminary recommendations for feedback and detailing its research.

Civil rights leader Julian Bond spoke about social activism and his experience leading protests during the civil rights movement during a talk on Thursday afternoon. The event, which attracted more than 200 people, was presented in conjunction with “Witness: Art and Civil Rights in the Sixties,” an exhibition featured at the Hood Museum of Art until Dec. 14.



Montgomery fellow talks U.K. health care

Despite the United Kingdom health system’s high patient satisfaction ratings — based on factors like short waiting times, comprehensive use of electronic medical records and universal access to health care — the system’s outcomes are not as good as they should be, said Sir Malcolm Grant, chair of England’s National Health Service and the College’s current Montgomery Fellow.


New Hampshire nabs top spot in OECD ranking

New Hampshire ranks highest in the nation for quality of the life, according to a report released last week by the Office of Economic Cooperation and Development. The study, “How’s Life in Your Region? Measuring Regional and Local Well-Being for Policy Making,” scored all 50 states and Washington, D.C., along with more than 300 other regions across the OECD’s 34 member nations. Regions were evaluated in nine categories: health, safety, housing, access to broadband, civic engagement, education, jobs, environment and income.
