The Dartmouth Big Green men's ice hockey team saw its dreams of an NCAA tournament berth come to an end on Friday, March 17, at the Pepsi Arena in Albany, N.Y. Despite winning the ECACHL regular season title, Dartmouth was crushed by the Harvard Crimson 10-1 in the semifinals of the conference tournament.

Leading the way for Dartmouth in the A division, Ashley Malenchak '08 continued her rise to the top of the collegiate squash world. After playing at the No. 1 spot for the Big Green women at the end of the regular season and the Howe Cup, Malenchak was able to move into the final 16 this weekend at Amherst College.
The Big Green women finished sixth as they said goodbye to seniors Jessica Vyrostko '06, Jessica Tory '06 and star Julia Drury '06, who has played at No. 1 for most of the 2005-06 campaign.
On Friday night, the men in green mowed down the Clarkson Golden Knights behind a hat trick from sophomore David Jones '08. The hat trick was the first of Jones' career and helped him notch his team-leading 16th goal of the season.
Senior captain Hank Alexander '06, playing in his final collegiate matches, did not like the slight at the hands of the rankers.
On Friday night the men in green traveled to the New York interior to square off against the Cornell Big Red (17-6-4, 12-5-3 ECACHL), ranked number one in the ECACHL and number six nationally. The Big Green came into Friday's game tied with the Colgate Raiders for second place in the ECACHL, one point behind the Big Red.
Dartmouth's No. 2-ranked player Julia Drury '06 found herself in a hole on Saturday afternoon against the Princeton Tigers. She trailed her opponent Casey Riley by two games in the second-to-last home match of her collegiate career. She also found herself at the No. 2 position after having played at No. 1 most of the season. However, Drury still managed to pull herself from the brink of defeat and down Riley in five games.
Big Green captain and star No. 1 Julia Drury '06 took part in what may have been the most enthralling match of the weekend, defeating Bowdoin No. 1 and former All-American Niki Clement in a tight match that went down to the fifth game. However, in the end it was Drury who was able to maintain her excellent record at No. 1.
"La vie est belle [Life is beautiful]," avows Eben Clattenburg '09 with his trademark goofy grin. Clattenburg, a native of nearby Springfield, Vermont, is the No. 8-positioned player on the Dartmouth men's squash team. Clattenburg speaks French with a native flourish, having lived in France for two years during high school.
The shocking win marks the Big Green's first come-from-behind victory of the season, as well as its first win after giving up the opening score. However, things looked grim for Dartmouth in the first period.
Eben Clattenburg '09 limped back into the squash court at the Berry Squash Center and muttered something inaudible in French. He picked up his racket, tapped it gently against the glass of the back wall and proceeded to dominate his Cornell University adversary. Big Green assistant coach David Heath called the competition "one of the best matches of [Clattenburg's] short college career."
With Wednesday's win, the men's team rebounded from tough defeats this weekend at the hands of Yale and Trinity, despite the best efforts of No. 2 Todd Wood '07. The junior beat the Bulldogs' Nick Chirls-- Yale's No. 2 player -- in four sets, 6-9, 9-5, 9-0, 9-2.
Newhouse grabbed his racket, assumed his ready position and proceeded to pick apart Phillips, dominating him 9-3 and 9-1 in the final two matches. His come-from-behind victory gave the Dartmouth men's squash team (4-1) a thrilling 5-4 victory over Williams Wednesday night.
"The weekend went really well," said head coach John Power. "Our team certainly dominated the top divisions."
The athletes involved will represent a vast array of skill levels, with 87 registrants ranging from local amateurs to college players from the likes of Smith, Wesleyan and Middlebury. As usual, there will be a large contingent of contestants from the Upper Valley to keep the Big Green on its toes.
The spirits of the Dartmouth men's and women's swimming and diving teams remain high despite a relative collapse this weekend at a double dual meet held at Simmons College. The Dartmouth men's swimming and diving team fell to both Harvard and Cornell. The Crimson defeated the Big Green 239-61 and the Big Red downed Dartmouth 238-61.
