On their Instagram page, student band Exit 13 comedically bills itself as “the best Dartmouth band named after a highway exit.” Since its founding in the summer of 2022, Exit 13 has progressively become a musical mainstay on Dartmouth’s campus. The band is slated to play nine shows this term – the most shows they have ever played in a single quarter – from typical fraternity concerts to live shows at local venues. The group is also practicing to compete in the Programming Board’s Battle of the Bands on April 27. If they win, they will perform an opening set at Green Key in May.

Throughout her time at Dartmouth, music major Raegan Padula ’24 has honed her craft as a skilled composer, french horn player, sound artist, producer and DJ. Through her music-focused coursework and attention to building community, Padula has developed her skills to find her unique sound at Dartmouth.

Julianne Jones ’26 has etched her name into the swimming team’s history books. At the annual Tate Ramsden Invitational hosted by Dartmouth, Jones dominated, breaking two meet records in the 400 individual medley and the 200 breaststroke, which also set a pool record.

Growing up in an artistic family has meant that Molly Rouzie ’24 has always been immersed in creative endeavors, embarking on her own artistic studies around her sophomore year of high school. At Dartmouth, Rouzie is a studio art and Italian double major with a minor in art history. At the beginning of this school year, she also became a campus engagement intern at the Hood Museum of Art under the guidance of curator of academic programming Amelia Kahl ’01.

This past fall, Taylor Williams ’24 earned an All-Ivy League Second Team distinction, joining just 33 other athletes across Ivy League women’s soccer to receive the honor. For Williams, the award represented the hard work she put in to play a big role on the field this season.

The ceramics studio provides students with the opportunity to learn and enjoy the art of ceramics alongside like-minded artists. Located in room 333 of the Black Family Visual Arts Center, the studio offers a wide variety of tools for everything, from learning the basics to tackling more complex projects.

What started in 2012 as a small business owned by Paula Fernandes — a Brazilian immigrant — is now a successful bakery central to Hanover called My Brigadeiro. The bakery’s handcrafted and organic products include 35 flavors of brigadeiros, plus a wide variety of authentic Brazilian pastries and savory snacks with European and American flair. According to their website, the store was created from Fernandes’s passion for “cooking, family, friends, and entertaining them with delicious treats.”

Rachel Freer ’24 and Margot Luria ’24 –– co-captains of the equestrian team –– look forward to continuing the team’s upward trajectory after defeating Stonehill College in a scrimmage on on Sept. 30. The victory was an indication of the progress the team has made on all fronts since last year, according to Luria.

The Donald Claflin Jewelry Studio — also known as the J-Shop — gives all students, regardless of their artistic backgrounds, the opportunity to exercise their creativity and craft wearable pieces of jewelry. Currently located in room 333 of the Black Family Visual Arts Center, the jewelry studio offers a wide variety of projects, using sophisticated — yet accessible — tools and techniques.

Student bands are an enduring aspect of Dartmouth’s musical community, which is composed of students from across class years. The most current iteration of the student band Shark is made up of Jacob Donoghue ’22 on keys and vocals, Patrick Howard ’23 on guitar and vocals, Kirusha Lanski ’23 on drums, Bo Farnell ’26 on guitar and Ian Moore ’26 on bass and backup vocals. In an email statement to The Dartmouth, Nick Deveau ’16 wrote that he co-founded the band with Pablo Marvel ’15 and Zach Wooster ’15 in the fall of 2014.

On Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Collis Common Ground, Milk performed along with six other student bands in Battle of the Bands — a competition to determine the student opener of campus music festival Green Key. Additionally, on May 6, they will take the stage at Kappa Delta Epsilon’s annual musical event, WoodstocKDE.

On April 14, Brandon Abiuso ’23 released his debut alternative rock album “A Day is the Worst Segmentation of Time” under his alias “Summer on Venus” on all music streaming platforms. “Summer on Venus” is also the name of a student band he sings and plays bass for on campus.

At the beginning of sophomore summer, Exit 13 was formed — becoming the newest addition to Dartmouth’s student-driven music scene. Named after the Hanover exit on Route 91, the band features lead vocalist and guitarist Sami Lofman ’24, keyboard player Amethyst McKenzie ’25, saxophone player Devontae Lacasse ’24, bassist Christian Caballero ’24 and drummer Kirusha Lanski ’23, who also plays in the student band Shark.

Film major Eduardo Hernandez ’22 started out behind the camera in middle school, delivering morning announcements and shooting sketches about the lunch menu. He found the experience “engrossing” — now, he is producing and directing a short film for his senior thesis titled “I Hope You Don’t Mind What I Put Down In Words.” To be completed by the end of spring, the short film focuses on the exhilarating early stages of love and features Annabel Everett ’25 and Jack Heaphy ’24.

Booth, Dartmouth’s DJ collective founded in 2016, is a social and art group that provides DJ services to Greek houses and other functions on campus. The collective is currently expanding their services by branching out to cover more events to fit a growing campus demand for DJs.

Read Receipts — colloquially known as the “cieptz” — is among a handful of student bands that are a mainstay of Dartmouth’s live music scene. Its current iteration features Annie Politi ’23 on lead vocals, Liam Jamieson ’22 on drums, Carson Peck ’22 and Isaac Weber ’22 on guitar, Jason Wang ’23 on bass and Katie Hoover ’22 on keys. The band started in summer 2016 when a group of ’18s formed a fledgling band during their sophomore summer. Six years and one pandemic later, the band has persisted true to its original mix of talent and its diversity of musicality and individuality.

In the fall of 2021, he was scouted via TikTok to audition for “American Idol.”

Matthew Heineman ’05 has filmed in conflict zones around the world and received glowing praise in the most elite circles of film. Most recently, he shot at a hospital in Queens, New York at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Heineman entered the field after graduation and is now a renowned filmmaker.

Alice Crow ’22 produces abstract works that deal with themes of the subconscious and nature. Double majoring in studio art and history, Crow currently works as a campus engagement intern at the Hood Museum of Art where she helps connect students to the museum and curate an upcoming exhibit.
