It’s a recurring theme in discussions amongst Vampire Weekend fans that their albums correspond to seasons. Their self-titled debut album, full of perky strings and New England imagery, is reminiscent of a collegiate fall. Their sophomore effort, “Contra,” with its bright synths and upbeat tempos, brings to mind a sunny summer day. And “Modern Vampires of the City,” their third album, is the definition of wintry, with its black and white cover and its existential, morbid themes.

After a period of low visibility, Divest Dartmouth is developing a new strategy to urge the College to divest from fossil-fuel related assets. Previously, the group had advocated for divestment from the 200 highest polluting companies, but it has narrowed its call to divestment from oil and gas companies that have not made an effort to develop clean energy or reduce their carbon output.

Earlier this month, the College announced a $10 million donation from Molly and Gregg Engles ’79 as part of the ongoing Call to Lead capital campaign, which aims to raise $3 billion by 2022. The three-part Engles donation will support the development of the Arts District, the West End District and faculty recruitment, according to provost Joseph Helble.

At the end of each academic year, The Dartmouth’s sports section puts up players to be voted on by the student body as the best of the best. In this year’s The D Sports Awards, five of the top rookies, five of the top female athletes and five of the top male athletes are pitted against each other, the winners to emerge after a popular vote by members of the Dartmouth community. In order to vote, students and community members can click on the link below to cast a single vote before Wednesday, May 22 at 1 p.m. The winners will be announced on Friday, May 24 in that day's issue of The Dartmouth.

The Dartmouth women’s crew team traveled to New Jersey this past weekend for its Ivy League Championship on the Cooper River. In overall team points, the Big Green came in sixth out of eight crews, positioned directly above Cornell University and below the University of Pennsylvania. These results mirror the outcome of the 2018 championships, in which Dartmouth was also wedged in sixth place.

Dartmouth softball star Micah Schroder ’20 was recently awarded Ivy League Player of the Year for her incredible 2019 performance. She is the first Dartmouth player to win the award since Katie McEachern ’16 in 2016. After earning unanimous First-Team, All-Ivy recognition, Schroder was recently named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Division I All-Northeast Region First Team.

The Dartmouth Rugby Football Club has not been defeated since its Sept. 2018 preseason loss to the United States Military Academy. In that match, the Big Green, a Division I-AA club team, finished just one try behind the DI-A United States Military Academy program. The promise shown by debut players like Jasper Green ’22 and Mike Weir ’22 has developed over successful fall and spring seasons. The Big Green will face Army once again in its initial pool for the Collegiate Rugby Championship at the end of the month.

Kathryn Giroux ’19 finished her collegiate career 11th all-time in NCAA history with 418 draws, but she did not even begin to focus on that aspect of the game until her sophomore year at Dartmouth. Head coach Danielle Spencer, who took the draw during her career at Northwestern University, imparted her knowledge upon Giroux during her first year with the Big Green in 2017. Spencer — who was named the co-Ivy League Coach of the Year for the second consecutive season earlier this month — has seen Giroux transform into the best draw-taker in Ivy League history. This year, Giroux was one of six unanimous selections to the All-Ivy First Team after earning Second Team honors in the previous two seasons.
