An Intolerable Situation
I have a special talent: I can identify nearly every skeptic in any crowd without asking questions. All I do is announce that I'm Catholic and wait to see who smirks.

In a recent interview with The Dartmouth about faculty reaction to the College's impending budget cuts ("College leaders to face profs' budget concerns" Nov. 6), mathematics professor Dan Rockmore, chair of the Committee on Priorities, said that economically vulnerable employees of the College should not be disproportionately affected. Speaking following College President Jim Yong Kim's October address to the faculty, English professor Donald Pease went so far as to argue that the definition of a liberal arts education is to deliver services to people in need in the midst of social change. Pease, therefore, said that the College should take the lead in bringing people back to work, despite the example of our peer institutions. Does this square with your definition of a liberal arts education?
The Dartmouth women's volleyball team closed out its season on the road this weekend in disappointing fashion, losing to Princeton in a hard-fought five-set tiebreak on Friday before falling in four sets to league champion University of Pennsylvania on Saturday.
The Big Green men's soccer team received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament Monday night, following a 3-0 loss to Brown on Sunday that ended the team's chances to gain automatic bid to the tournament.
The truth is, despite his relative obscurity on this campus, Wale has been hip-hop's all-but-anointed "next big thing" for years. The D.C. native came from Washington's local go-go scene and broke out into the hip-hop mainstream two years ago touring with the likes of Jay-Z and super-producer Mark Ronson and releasing a trifecta of high-profile mixtapes.

Following the success of Dartmouth athletes at the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin, Italy, a new generation of players are now looking to punch their tickets to the 2010 Games in Vancouver. Dartmouth sent 13 athletes to Turin, who came back with a haul of five medals, three of them gold.
This school's mascot situation is ridiculous. Honestly, what happened? During my first two years here, there was a whole mess of competition and controversy over what our mascot should be. In the past two years, that debate seems to have completely died out, and we appear to be satisfied with leaving several pseudo-mascots (Dartmoose, Keggy, nothing) on the proverbial and literal playing field, without actually coming to a decision. This needs to change.
I sat down with Brittney Smith '11 and Margaret Smith '10 to discuss the success of the Dartmouth women's basketball team over the past few years and the players' outlook for the season.
Dartmouth (2-3-1, 2-3-1 ECAC Hockey) split the weekend, however, as the team stumbled against Quinnipiac University, losing 2-1 despite refocusing its attack in the final minutes of play.
The Big Green (0-5, 0-5 ECAC Hockey) now finds itself at the bottom of the ECAC Hockey League with zero points. Princeton (3-2-1, 2-1-1 ECAC Hockey) is in fourth place with 5 points and Quinnipiac (8-1-0, 4-0 ECAC Hockey) leads the league with 8 points.
