The Student Assembly will vote tonight on whether or not to pass a new resolution proposing more co-educational living options for Dartmouth undergraduates. Under the Assembly's proposal, the River Apartments, eight of the two-room doubles in the East Wheelock residential cluster and several of the rooms in the new McLaughlin cluster will house both male and female roommates.

Dartmouth's own Nora Jacobson '74 personally screened her third feature-length film at Loew Auditorium on Nov. 5. Jacobson, who studied anthropology at Dartmouth but went on to study experimental film at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, is independently distributing this latest effort, "Nothing Like Dreaming," and has returned to her alma matter for the film's regional debut.

When a second-grader makes a mistake on a math problem, we pat him on the back and tell him to try again. He falters, realizes he has made a mistake, and struggles to correct it. However, the man who will occupy the White House for four more years is no primary school student, and mounting American deaths in Iraq are no simple mathematical error.

Most people would consider the resistance to cold temperatures they feel after drinking an extra benefit of winter alcohol consumption. What they might not know is that drinking in cold weather can be dangerous, as the chances of contracting hypothermia increase after consuming alcohol.

Most people consider birthdays a chance to celebrate with gifts and family. For Ruth Chris, director of food services at Dartmouth Dining Services' Byrne Hall facility, her last 15 birthdays have been a chance to give to others. Buying a birthday present for Chris every Nov. 7 is simple: She wants groceries, and over the last decade and a half has graciously received more than 2,000 bags full of them, which she then donates to the needy of the Upper Valley.

The "liberal education" might not be dead, but it might require some changes, professors argued at a weekend conference on higher education held at Dartmouth. "Liberal Education: Dead or Alive?" featured 16 speakers, but only one who claimed seriously that the concept of a liberal arts education is dead.

Former Vermont Gov. Howard Dean visited Dartmouth for the second time in less than a week Sunday, passionately speaking to an overflow crowd at Alumni Hall about the Democratic Party's need for change and a commitment to its core values, in light of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry's recent defeat.

The Dartmouth men's rugby team earned a fourth straight win at home Saturday in its final regular season match against Northeastern University. Much rode on the match for both teams, as the winner would continue into postseason play, and the loser would be finished competing for the season. After a hard fought match and a dramatic second half, Dartmouth stormed to a 35-20 victory, securing a playoff berth.

In Tuesday's aftermath, many students on Dartmouth's predominantly liberal campus have expressed anger and disappointment at the defeat of Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry and the re-election of President Bush. This paper endorsed the senator for his superior qualifications and platform, yet now that the polls have closed, it is time to take a long, thoughtful look at the next four years.

Try and explain the Homecoming bonfire to people who have never been. Chances are they think the idea of students running around a towering burning structure sounds unsafe. But the College's proactive approach to risk management and a number of safety measures make the bonfire much less of an insurance liability than it might seem.
