College campuses seem to be a center of volunteer activity. From the Big Brother Big Sister program, popular at Dartmouth and beyond, to opportunities to knit hats for the homeless and work with children, college students are being encouraged to get out and do their parts to help others.

It appears area residents are decisively against proposed plans negotiated between the College and local school district for Dartmouth to buy the entire property occupied by Hanover High and Middle Schools, but the community members who attended an open meeting last night expressed more enthusiasm for the possibility of Dartmouth buying a smaller portion of that property.

On November 7th, a pair of dismal pawns took center stage in a melodrama that continues to unfold sluggishly and disgracefully, embarrassing our nation at every opportunity. Two days earlier, a great man who, ironically, detested the sloth of bureaucracy, died of cancer. David Brower was 88 years old.

Matt LaBarre '04 was named the 2000 Ivy League Rookie of the Year Wednesday after leading the Big Green men's soccer team in scoring in his first season. LaBarre scored seven goals and had six assists in 17 games, which was also good for third in the Ivy League in scoring.
