Day Drooler releases their new single “Oak Cupboard”

During the summer of his sophomore year, Kabir Mehra ’26 decided to reach out to some of his friends to “jam out” some of the songs he had been workshopping on his guitar. By week three of summer term, the group had fleshed out a repertoire of songs and formed a band: Day Drooler. This band is more “just a group of friends,” Mehra said. Christian Smith ’27 and Nathan McAllister ’25, who play lead guitar and saxophone respectively, had done gigs with Mehra the spring before Day Drooler’s formation. Grant Foley ’25, who plays the drums, and Ian Glick ’26, who plays bass, both became friends with Mehra through the Dartmouth music scene.

Q&A with Day Drooler vocalist Kabir Mehra ’26

On Aug. 11, Kabir Mehra ’26 released a three-song indie record called “The B Songs” under the name Day Drooler. Mehra is the lead vocalist for a band of the same name, which features drummer Grant Foley ’25, bassist Ian Glick ’26, saxophonist Nathan McAllister ’25 and guitarist Jackson Yassin ’26. Together with his band, which formed this summer, he plans on expanding his EP into an 11-song album. The Dartmouth sat down with Mehra to discuss his music-making process for “The B Songs” and his aspirations for future full-length projects.

Here Comes the Sun: Sophomore summer features new and returning student bands

Sophomore summer marks a time of change for student bands. The Class of 2024 has graduated, while most of the Classes of 2025 and 2027 are off campus — leaving the sophomores to find replacements, operate without a member or two or take a pause altogether. Some sophomores have even used newfound free time to found a band, like Kabir Mehra ’26, who started the indie rock band Day Drooler.

Napping Nooks

After only about three weeks at Dartmouth I realized that because our lives are peppered with papers, midterms, finals and oh-so-restful weekends, naps are the currency of the realm. The promise of what used to be a kindergartner's daily low point is now what gets me through hypnotic lectures and late nights the thought that, after classes are over, I can cocoon myself in my bed and get some well-needed shut-eye for an hour or two (or four or even six in my case the appropriate term here is narcolepsy).
