Hanover Water Works Company mistakenly overinjected baking soda -- five extra milligrams per liter -- into the town's water supply a week and a half ago, causing student and town residents to complain of an unpleasant taste. The problem occurred because of a design flaw in the chemical feed pumps and the overload has since been alleviated, according to Peter Kulbacki, director of the Hanover Public Works Department and general manager of the Hanover Water Works Company.

"Within the human condition we experience both mania and depression," said Justin Rudelson, the organizing director of the show and senior lecturer in the Asian and Middle Eastern languages and literature department. "Summer represents mania, fall represents the falling of emotions, winter represents depression, spring represents coming out of that depression into a time of hope. San Diego State University suspended six fraternities on suspicion of drug dealing after police agents arrested 75 students in a raid in which police confiscated three guns, two kilograms of cocaine, ecstasy pills, methamphetamine and over $60,000 in cash, The Chicago Tribune reported. According to authorities, some fraternity members openly dealt drugs and may have used the profits to fund fraternity operations. The investigation was sparked by the on-campus death of Shirley Poliakoff, 19, who died of a cocaine overdose in May 2007. The fraternities that received suspensions were Theta Chi, Lambda Chi Alpha, Phi Kappa Psi, Phi Kappa Theta, Sigma Alpha Epsilon and Sigma Alpha Mu.

Nicholas Garza, a student at Middlebury College, is still missing after disappearing from a campus party on Feb. 5. Garza's friends contacted the Middlebury Department of Public Safety the morning after his disappearance, but it was thought he had left campus during the mid-term break. Heavy snowfalls have complicated the search process, which began after Garza's family filed a missing person's report on Feb. 10. Although Garza's dormitory was less than half a mile away from the site of his disappearance, Garza's mother worried that he was unprepared for the recent drop in temperatures.

Two of Dartmouth's finest were crowned last night in the first annual "Mr. and Ms. Big Green" school spirit competition, in which candidates tested their talents on the dance floor and runway alike. The event, held in Collis Common Ground and inspired by the annual Mr. Yale competition at Yale University, was designed to celebrate Dartmouth spirit while contributing to charity.
