The men’s tennis team heads to Princeton University and the women to the College of William and Mary this Friday following strong 2013-14 seasons, defined by last-second victories, crushing defeats and unprecedented success. Though no team tournaments take place in the fall, the individual outings can serve as important practice for the winter and spring.

The men’s lacrosse team’s 17-12 defeat of the College of the Holy Cross finished its season on a triumphant note on Scully-Fahey Field. The Big Green (2-10, 0-6 Ivy) rode a record-setting individual performance from Mike Olentine ’14 to the five-goal victory in the final game of the season on Tuesday.

After making quick work in a 4-0 sweep at Yale University on Saturday, the men’s tennis team won in dramatic fashion for the second week in a row at the Thompson outdoor courts on Sunday. It took a third set tiebreaker victory from Chris Kipouras ’15 to secure the win for the Big Green (18-5, 5-1 Ivy) against Brown University on senior day. The final score line was 4-3. The two wins secured the team’s winningest Ivy record since the eight-team league was established in 1998 and the 18 wins ties an all-time high.

The men’s and women’s tennis teams went 1-1 over a packed weekend, each defeating Cornell University and falling to Columbia University. The No. 40 men (14-5, 1-1 Ivy) hit the road for their matches, while the women (5-7, 1-1 Ivy) hosted the teams. The men beat the No. 52 Big Red (10-7, 0-3 Ivy) 4-2, before dropping the match against No. 17 Lions (16-1, 3-0 Ivy) 4-0. The women defeated Cornell (7-6, 0-3 Ivy) 6-1 at home on Friday, but fell 6-1 to No. 33 Columbia (14-2, 3-0) team on Saturday.

The men’s tennis team traveled to Virginia over spring break, where it went 2-1 against three nonconference opponents. Dartmouth picked up convincing victories against The College of William and Mary and Old Dominion University. The Big Green, which entered the trip ranked 34 in the country suffered a painful loss against No. 36 Virginia Commonwealth University.

After a long weekend of passionate competition at the Boss Tennis Center, the men’s tennis team came in third in the annual ECAC Indoor Championship. The four-day stretch of matches ended successfully for the No. 3 seeded Dartmouth (9-2) which improved on its 8th place finish from last year.

The men’s tennis team dominated on Saturday, handily defeating Bryant University and Villanova University in a morning-afternoon doubleheader. Both competitions ended 7-0, marking the second time in the past three seasons the Big Green has swept its opening weekend.

The women’s golf team finished seventh in its last competitiom until the spring at last weekend’s Lehigh Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University. The two-day, 36-hole tournament, played at Saucon Valley Country Club in Bethlehem, Pa., featured nine teams. The Big Green shot an aggregate score of 332 on Sunday and 325 on Monday to finish above Lehigh’s B team and the U.S. Naval Academy.

The Dartmouth sailing team competed in four regattas over the weekend, finishing in the top five in three of them, including a second-place finish in the Nicholas Barnett Trophy hosted by Bowdoin College.

Ellen Meyer '15 earned her second career shutout in goal for Dartmouth. A stout defense contained the River Hawks (1-13, 0-1 America East) to just one shot on goal, which led to an easy save by Meyer. In total, Dartmouth had 28 shots while the opposition managed only 8.

The men's and women's cross country teams both finished second in the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pa., this weekend. A third place individual finish from Will Geoghegan '14 and a second consecutive individual win by Abbey D'Agostino '14 propelled the teams to their best-ever finishes in the event.
