Study buddies may come in all sizes and shapes from the little pop-able pill to the Screech-esque wire-spectacled dork in your rocks-are-NOT-for-f*ing-jocks-class. You all know the guy we're talking about: he sits in the front row of class in a large lecture hall with his laptop propped open, violently jotting down every word out of the professor's mouth. Verbatim. Blitz during class? Not even a fleeting thought in his mind. The only time we have ever brought a computer to class, it has been in blatant attempt to shut out every word coming from the professor's mouth, or to play Tetris. This is your time, it's midterms. Befriend the nerd. Use him for all he's worth. No one is looking to fail out of this place.

This weekend the Dartmouth Rugby Football Club was the runner-up in the Northeast Championship, clinching a spot in the National Championship to be held this spring. Dartmouth rugby fell to Army in the Northeast Championship Final on Sunday after winning the quarterfinal against the University of Buffalo Saturday afternoon in Amherst, Mass.

For the second consecutive game, senior Katieanne Christian scored five goals to lead the No. 5 ranked Dartmouth women's lacrosse team to a resounding 13-3 victory over the fourth-seeded Georgetown Hoyas (13-5) in the quarterfinals of the NCAA tournament on Sunday afternoon at Scully-Fahey Field. With the win, the Big Green improves to 16-2 on the season and earns a spot in the NCAA semifinals next weekend in Annapolis, Md., where it will face top-seeded Northwestern. Northwestern remains the only undefeated team in NCAA play.

The Dartmouth women's hockey team has had nothing less than a spectacular season thus far. As the only remaining undefeated team in the ECAC, the Big Green's sole loss this year was against No. 1-ranked Minnesota, in a heartwrenching 4-3 overtime loss. Incidentally, Dartmouth had just beaten the Golden Gophers the night before by a score of 7-5.

Despite a disappointing season last year, the Dartmouth field hockey team erupted with a vengeance in the opening weeks of the 2004 season. After dropping their first two games during a difficult road trip to the Buckeye state, the Big Green bounced back to win its first two Ivy League contests, good enough for first place in its league.

While many sophomores wish the current balmy New Hampshire weather would last through the next eight months, the Dartmouth women's hockey team yearns for the days of frigid temperatures and of course, lots of ice. But how could we blame them, as they come off yet another impressive season, finishing fourth in the NCAA with 24-8-2 over all record.

The Big Green men's tennis team returned to Hanover from California with much-needed tans and excellent preparation for their upcoming Ivy season despite going winless in their last three contests and falling to 6-7 on the season. While the rest of the student body was busy enjoying their well-deserved break, the men's tennis team was hard at work, taking on the highly ranked teams of the University of Utah, Pepperdine and UC-Santa Barbara.

The Big Green men's tennis maintains a winning record thus far this season, now standing at 5-3 for the year. Recently Dartmouth has enjoyed considerable success, winning its last three matches against St. Bonaventure, UConn and Boston College, despite losing two early matches to Tulsa and Oklahoma State.
