Having fared poorly at the last two Ivy League Rugby Championships, the Dartmouth rugby team arrived at Conshohocken, Penn., set on regaining the Ivy Cup that it had previously held for five straight years. Relying on aggressive defense that yielded only two tries in three games, the team again earned the Ivy League title with victories over Yale in the first round, Penn in the semifinal and Cornell in the final.

On a rainy Saturday, the Dartmouth men's rugby team took the field against Northeastern University for its first New England match of the spring season. The Dartmouth team showed improvement over last week's match against UCLA, an important step as the team continues to develop in preparation for next weekend's Ivy League Championships at Penn. In a match marked by penalties and handling errors due to the bad conditions, Dartmouth took the early lead and never looked back, emerging with a 39-17 victory.

AMHERST, Mass., Nov. 14 -- It was a weekend of unpredictable weather and delays at the Northeastern Rugby Union Final Four, held this year at UMass Amherst. Because of snow that arrived Friday night, the planned two-day tournament was moved to Sunday, so each of the four teams played two shortened matches in a single day, resting for only an hour in between.

SACHEM FIELD, Nov. 6 -- On a beautiful sunny Saturday, the Dartmouth rugby team to extended its four-game winning streak and advanced to the Northeastern Rugby Union Final Four as it hosted Syracuse University for a first round playoff match. With College President James Wright and an enthusiastic crowd in attendance, the home team dominated throughout the match and came away with a resounding 58-15 victory.

The Dartmouth men's rugby team earned a fourth straight win at home Saturday in its final regular season match against Northeastern University. Much rode on the match for both teams, as the winner would continue into postseason play, and the loser would be finished competing for the season. After a hard fought match and a dramatic second half, Dartmouth stormed to a 35-20 victory, securing a playoff berth.

AMHERST, Mass. -- Coming off a narrow yet important victory over a strong squad from the University of Connecticut last weekend, the Dartmouth rugby team was poised to continue its winning streak Saturday against the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. In a sloppy match marred by numerous penalties for both teams, Dartmouth was able to hang on and keep the streak alive with a 19-14 victory, improving its season record to 4-2.

SACHEM FIELD, Oct. 16 -- The Dartmouth rugby team took the field at home against their undefeated New England rivals from the University of Connecticut Saturday, in a match that was desperately needed in order to keep the Big Green's playoff hopes alive. In a hard fought contest, the DRFC came from behind to clinch a narrow victory, 22-19, despite repeated UConn efforts to score in the final minutes.

NORTHFIELD, Vt. -- On a beautiful sunny Saturday, the Dartmouth men's rugby team took the field against perennial rivals Norwich Military Academy with the hopes of avenging last year's disappointing loss to the team. The contest was one that Dartmouth had to win in order to stay in playoff contention and, in a physical match, the Big Green was able to dominate the game and cement a victory, 45-15.

WEST POINT MILITARY ACADEMY, Oct. 2 -- On a cold and rainy Saturday evening, the Dartmouth rugby team took on a strong Army squad at West Point. It was the third regular season match for the Dartmouth Rugby Football Club and the team was hoping to improve on its record of 1-1. However, in a hard-fought battle that opened with an early Dartmouth lead, Army slowly took control and was able to clinch a convincing 40-10 victory.

Providence, R.I. -- After last week's disappointing loss to Boston College, the Dartmouth rugby team went in search of their first league victory Saturday against Ivy rival Brown. In a strong showing, the team was led by captain Erik Richardson '05 and co-captain Brad Hogate '05, who each recorded hat tricks on the way to a convincing 64-9 victory.

SACHEM FIELD, Sept. 18 -- On a cold and rainy Saturday, the Dartmouth rugby team took the pitch against a strong side from Boston College in its season opener. The young Dartmouth team has been training for the better part of three weeks, playing exhibition matches against sides from Carleton University and McGill University. In a hotly contested match, BC played solid 10-man rugby and capitalized on Dartmouth turnovers to record a victory against the Dartmouth side, 37-17.
