Dick’s House counseling navigates move to teletherapy

For the first month of spring term, Dick’s House was unable to offer counseling services to students outside of New Hampshire due to licensing restrictions that prevented counselors from practicing out of state. After state and regional health boards loosened restrictions in light of COVID-19, the Counseling Center has explored new ways to connect with students as the College moves into its second term of remote learning.


College, Dartmouth community grapple with risk of coronavirus

In response to the recent exposure of members of the Dartmouth community to novel coronavirus, the College is grappling with how to manage and respond to the virus and its potential risks to more individuals. At the same time, students and community members are dealing with the reality of possible changes to everyday life. 


'It felt very much like a punishment': Medical leave at Dartmouth

In spring 2018, a student visited her friend Jeremy Hadfield ’21’s room after not hearing from him for several days and found a carefully-crafted suicide note on his desk. After panicking over what she thought meant the loss of her friend’s life, Hadfield entered the room. With much encouragement, Hadfield decided to seek help at Dick’s House, And after meeting with a counselor the next day, Hadfield agreed to the terms of voluntary medical withdrawal. 







Rain storms cause damage to microscope, leaks in students dorms

During a late September rain storm, water leakage in Remsen Medical Sciences Building, currently under construction, resulted in permanent damage of a microscope that will cost roughly $1.5 million to repair. The damage to the College’s Scios 2 DualBeam electron microscope was so severe that the microscope could not be repaired, according to electron microscopes director Maxime Guinel. A storm a few weeks later also resulted in water leaks in student residences in the River Cluster.
