Dartmouth tennis hopes to secure more Ivy League wins after some recent defeats. The men's team played at home in Hanover against Columbia University this past Saturday and against Cornell University the following day at Dartmouth's Thompson Outdoor Courts. The women's team traveled to New York to face both Columbia and Cornell away.
Last Sunday, men’s tennis played a double header at the Boss Tennis Center. The Big Green swept Colgate University 7-0 and finished the day defeating Boston University 6-1.

The Big Green lost its first two matches against Columbia University and Yale University, but ended the weekend on a positive note with a win against Brown University in the seventh-place match.
Last Friday, women’s tennis faced off against defending Ivy League champion Princeton University to commence the ECAC Indoor Championship at the Boss Tennis Center. The Big Green fell to the Tigers 4-3. The team triumphantly came back the next day with an upset against Cornell University 4-1, before ending the championship matches on Sunday with a 4-0 loss to Yale University.
Men’s and women’s tennis began their competitive seasons a few weeks ago — the men on Jan. 14 with a doubleheader sweep against the United States Naval Academy and the women on Jan. 21 with a 5-2 defeat of St. John’s University. Neither team has lost a match since their respective season-opening victories.
Men’s tennis has commenced the 2022 Ivy League season. Currently, the Big Green is 8-9 and 0-3 in conference matches. The team started its Ivy League play on April 2 against the only three nationally ranked Ivy League teams: No. 15 Harvard University, No. 58 Cornell University and No. 23 Columbia University. The team fell in a 7-0 loss to Harvard, followed by a 4-1 loss to Cornell and a 7-0 loss to Columbia on April 9 and 10, respectively.
In his final year at Dartmouth, Pierce Widdecombe ’22 has taken on the dual responsibility of captaining the men’s tennis team along with being the team’s only senior.
The men’s and women’s tennis teams finished strong at Harvard’s UTR Metro Open and the Big Green Invite, their final weekend of fall season play. The men saw six singles wins the first day and the women finished 15-3 overall, losing only one singles match.
