Summer performing arts groups offer creative outlet for variety of students

(07/30/21 5:02am)

Every year during sophomore summer, a variety of performing arts groups on campus — from a capella to dance to improvisation — open up spots for temporary members. With generally more free time and an eagerness to take advantage of all the College has to offer, sophomores usually take this opportunity to challenge themselves to acquire a new set of skills or return to an activity they stopped upon coming to Dartmouth. Though the pandemic paused this summer tradition last year, with fewer COVID-19 restrictions on campus now, students are revitalizing it and enjoying the College’s gradual transition into normalcy.

Throughout the pandemic, the project has sought to explore each entry of composer Niccolò Paganini's “24 Caprices for Solo Violin.”

This Friday and Saturday, the Dartmouth Dance Ensemble will showcase the choreography that it has been rehearsing all year in its spring performance, “Steps and Sounds.” While the ensemble offered a sneak preview of this weekend’s show in its winter works-in-progress performance, this weekend will be the first time that the public can view the culmination of a year of choreography and rehearsals.

A Letter of Endorsement: Dabbing

(10/03/16 3:28pm)

I will fully admit to the fact that I am a huge fan of pop culture trends, and I accept the fact that I am 19 going on 12. I will also admit that I cannot dance to save my life. But, there are five dance moves that I employ on a day-to-day basis: the whip, the Nae Nae, the one where you flip your hands quickly but I don’t know what it is called, charging it up and, most importantly, the dab.
