Historical Carnival posters are now sought-after items for both alumni and poster collectors, and sometimes sell for hundreds or thousands of dollars.
In the years preceding coeducation, male Dartmouth students invited women to the College as dates during Winter Carnival weekend. Many women participated in the Queen of the Snows pageant, which began in 1923.
Psi Upsilon fraternity's keg jump, once one of Carnival's more popular events, was discontinued in 2001 following insurance concerns. The keg jump is among several former traditions absent from contemporary Carnivals.
Past Winter Carnivals saw the creation of large-scale snow sculptures. Warm temperatures have sometimes hindered the project in recent years.
