The Alumni Council nominated Gail Koziara Boudreaux '82 and R. William Burgess '81 on Friday as its two nominees for the two open seats on the Board of Trustees, for which elections will occur on this Spring. Boudreaux and Burgess are being nominated for the seats that were vacated by Christine Bucklin '84 and Jose Fernandez '77, college officials announced atFriday's Council meeting.

Psi Upsilon fraternity has been charged with serving alcohol to a minor, Hanover Police announced in a press release Thursday. The charge follows three other pending counts against the organization for serving alcohol to minors, stemming from incidents in September.

A Connecticut jury has recommended the death penalty for Stephen Hayes, who was found guilty for the July 2007 murders of Hayley Petit and her mother and sister. Hayley Petit would have matriculated with the Class of 2011.

Steven Hayes was convicted of the murders of Hayley Petit and her mother and sister in court on Tuesday, making Hayes eligible for the death penalty, the Associated Press reported. The conviction comes at the end of three weeks of trial, with the jury deliberating for less than one full day, The New York Times reported.

In a continuing string of police charges against Dartmouth Greek organizations, Hanover Police announced this morning that they have served Theta Delta Chi and Psi Upsilon fraternities with multiple complaints of Prohibited Sales for serving alcohol to minors. Because Theta Delt and Psi U are considered organizations under state law, police will pursue felony charges against the fraternities, according to an HPD press release.

The College has reversed its decision to terminate employee death benefits, Provost Carol Folt and Executive Vice President Steven Kadish wrote in an e-mail message to College staff on Wednesday. The decision, which saw strong disapproval from retirees, was part of the effort to close the $100 million budget shortfall.

A 26-year-old man died Sept. 4 after the car he was riding in struck a guardrail and utility pole at the intersection of Greensboro and Etna Roads, about four miles from campus, according to a Hanover Police press release. Thetford, Vt. resident Warren Carpenter was ejected from the Dodge pickup as it rolled over after striking the pole and guardrail, fatally injuring him. The accident occurred when the vehicle's driver, Leo Bombaci of Fairlee, Vt., "failed to negotiate the turn" at the intersection, according to the press release, which also noted that "speed and alcohol were factors in the crash." Bombaci was arrested and will face felony charges in Lebanon District Court for driving under the influence. The case is still under investigation.
