Card access to residence halls will be restricted to residents only after a student received a threatening message as part of an internet scam, according to a campus-wide alert sent Sunday evening. Hanover Police has confirmed that the email sent to the student was a scam, and the student is safe and has been offered support resources from the College, according to the alert, signed by interim Safety and Security director Keysi Montás and associate dean of residential life Mike Wooten.

A laundry bag theft from a residence hall reported to Safety and Security this afternoon has “similarities” to the reported burglary at Kappa Delta Epsilon sorority earlier this week, though at this time there is “no evidence” that the two cases are related, according to a campus-wide email from Safety and Security.

Over 100 Dartmouth students and faculty gathered on the Green in the rain this afternoon to discuss and speak out against sexual violence at the College. The event, called "In Solidarity Against Sexual Violence," was co-organized by Libby Goldman '18 and Leah Alpern '18.

As of today, local restaurant Everything But Anchovies has closed permanently, according to EBAs president Maureen Bogosian. EBAs had operated in Hanover for 38 years.

Early Wednesday morning, the town of Hanover released results from the annual town meeting the night before and did not pass zoning board amendment Article 9, which concerned the town’s definition of a student residence. Out of 3,464 total ballots cast on the measure, 42.5 percent (1,471) were in favor of the measure and 57.5 percent (1,993) were against it. Article 9 needed a “supermajority,” or two-thirds of the votes, to pass.

On Thursday night, a water pipe burst in West Gym, closing the area for the weekend. West Gym includes the running track and basketball courts in Alumni Gym. Zimmerman Fitness Center, which includes the aerobic machines and free weights upstairs in Alumni Gym, will remain open.

Dartmouth student Jarion Brown ’19 was arrested last Saturday, April 1 on assault charges, according to the Hanover Police Department’s press log. The Valley News reported that Brown pleaded not guilty to felony second-degree domestic assault and misdemeanor domestic simple assault charges earlier this week.

Joshua Monette ’19 died this week near his home in Neah Bay, Washington, College President Phil Hanlon wrote in a campus-wide email sent Friday. He was swept out to sea while harvesting seafood with a family member on the shoreline at Cape Flattery in Washington. He was reported missing on Sunday.

Former interim dean of the Geisel School of Medicine Duane Compton was announced as the next dean of the medical school, effective immediately, in a campus-wide email sent Wednesday by College President Phil Hanlon and Provost Carolyn Dever. Compton will serve a four-year term.

The College offered admission to 2,092 students for the Class of 2021 on Thursday. The College received 20,034 applications and the acceptance rate was 10.4 percent, the lowest rate of admissions at the College since 2013.

In a campus-wide email Monday, College president Phil Hanlon and Provost Carolyn Dever announced N. Bruce Duthu '80 as the next dean of faculty of arts and sciences. Duthu will succeed Dean Michael Mastanduno on July 1 and serve a four-year term.

On Wednesday, 1vyG, an advocacy group for first-generation students, sent out a press release announcing its No Apologies Initiative, which calls for universities to eliminate application fees for low-income and first-generation college students by the 2017-18 application cycle. Student Assembly president Nick Harrington ’17 signed the press release, alongside student government representatives from the other members of the Ivy League, Northwestern University, Stanford University and the University of Chicago, as well as representatives for first-generation, low-income student groups from all members of the Ivy League.

Dartmouth, along with 16 other colleges and universities, has filed an amicus brief in Darweesh et al. v. Trump et al., the case that led to the first legal defeat of the executive order barring U.S. entry from seven Muslim-majority countries. On Jan. 28, after hearing the case, a federal judge in Brooklyn, New York issued a nationwide temporary stay blocking the deportation of people stranded in U.S. airports under the executive order.
