Though the College originally stated that only students enrolled in classes for summer term would be allowed to stay in on-campus housing after the spring term ended, some students have been allowed to remain due to extenuating circumstances.

Sal Khan, who will speak at this year’s remote commencement ceremony, is no stranger to connecting with others from behind a computer screen. As the founder of Khan Academy, he pioneered a widely popular online platform that offers free educational videos and exercises in topics ranging from math to chemistry to SAT prep. During the COVID-19 pandemic, schools around the world have shifted to remote learning, which has caused a spike in traffic on Khan Academy.

College President Phil Hanlon and provost Joseph Helble held a virtual town hall on Wednesday afternoon to answer questions about the College’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pair reiterated many of the College’s recent decisions and clarified a few new details, including that students, though paying full tuition, will not be required to pay room and board and that financial aid will be increased.

According to data from the Drug Enforcement Administration, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Pharmacy in Lebanon distributed 5,146,260 opioid pills between 2006 to 2014, making it the pharmacy which dispensed the most opioids in Grafton County. While the number of pills is not irregular considering the size of the population the pharmacy serves, the data illustrates the opioid epidemic in the Upper Valley and New Hampshire, which is changing with a rise in fentanyl use despite the best efforts of local organizations to combat the problem.

The new sexual and gender-based misconduct policy adopted by the College in September 2019 includes a set of informal procedures available to students, faculty and staff which provide more choices for resolutions and resources to survivors of sexual misconduct.

Earlier this month, Campus billing and DartCard services announced via email that as of March 16, students will no longer be able to overdraft their DASH Discretionary accounts. Currently, students are able to overdraw up to $100 on this account without the transaction failing.

Co-owners of Hanover Haircutters Ryan and Robert Romano, a father-son duo, have voiced criticism of the Office of Pluralism and Leadership’s hair care voucher program, which serves low-income communities on campus by offsetting the cost of hair care. The Romanos said that the vouchers can only be used at one barbershop in Hanover, unduly benefiting the operations of one shop over others.

Philadelphia native Sean Taylor recently opened a new barbershop in Hanover called The People’s Barbershop and Shave Parlor. The barbershop, which caters to all hair types, shares a space with Robert’s Flowers, located underneath the Starbucks on Main Street.
