Weekly dormitory walkthroughs by undergraduate advisors on “likely drinking nights” will not be fully implemented until this fall. The announcement, which follows a petition signed by more than 50 UGAs at the end of winter term, was made in the UGAs’ termly meeting on Sunday afternoon to the surprise of attendees, several UGAs confirmed.

The College extended its suspension of Alpha Delta fraternity last week after allegations arose that members of the fraternity branded new members in the fall of 2014. AD responded in a statement from attorney George Ostler that acknowledged that branding had occurred but claimed that it represented “self-expression,” was limited to a small group of members, not the brotherhood as a whole and was neither a requirement for new or continued membership, nor did the decision to be branded affect a member’s standing in the organization.

College President Phil Hanlon’s proclamation that Dartmouth’s curriculum would become more academically rigorous in his Jan. 29 “Moving Dartmouth Forward” announcement sparked debate and worry amongst many students. A panel on academic rigor on Tuesday evening attempted to address these fears by having panelists, many of whom served on the “Moving Dartmouth Forward” presidential steering committee, discuss changes that will be associated with its enactment.

The College has clarified and expanded the disciplinary action for violations of the alcohol policies announced by College President Phil Hanlon in late January as part of his “Moving Dartmouth Forward” initiative. Punishments for hard alcohol violations will include college probation and suspension for first- and second-time offenders, respectively.

A group of young entrepreneurs from the Dartmouth community gathered at the Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Network on Friday evening with a purpose: to share, innovate and their own ideas and, in 72 hours, put those concepts into a distributable form before a panel of judges with experience in entrepreneurship. The event was organized through a DEN-sponsored program called “3 Day Startup,” a program originally formed by students at the University of Texas in 2008 to “make entrepreneurship ubiquitous at the university level,” according to the national program’s website.

The Greek Leadership Council adopted a new, stricter sexual assault policy, GLC moderator Alistair Glover ’15 said Wednesday night, that will immediately remove any member of a Greek house from their house upon a finding of responsibility in any sexual misconduct proceedings by the Committee on Standards. The previous policy only removed students from their houses if they were found responsible for such a violation and were then placed on probation for two or more terms.

United States Ambassador to Sweden Mark Brzezinski, a member of the Class of 1987 addressed climate change, diplomacy and Arctic policy in his Monday lecture titled “#OurSharedArctic: U.S. Embassy Sweden and Modern Diplomacy.” Brzezinski is one of the 2015 winter term Montgomery Fellows and was in residence on campus from Feb. 14 through 17, His work on campus focused on the theme “Climate Change and Society.”

Experiential learning and entrepreneurship have formed the majority of academic and educational programming put on by Greek organizations recently. From Experiential Learning University, or ExL — a leadership and entrepreneurship organization — to faculty dinners, Greek houses have been focusing on developing the leadership and entrepreneurial skills of both their members and other students through experience and interaction with professionals.

In a Thursday morning speech outlining a new social doctrine for Dartmouth, College President Phil Hanlon announced a campus-wide ban on hard alcohol — beverages containing more than 15 percent alcohol by volume — to be enforced the beginning of spring term and the mandatory presence of third-party bartenders and bouncers at parties hosted by Dartmouth or College-recognized organizations. Hanlon also reaffirmed the continuation of the Greek system, but said that its existence could be revisited in the coming years.

A spectrum of sanctions have been imposed on the 64 students involved in the cheating incident in religion professor Randall Balmer’s “Sports, Ethics and Religion” course last fall. Punishments range from four terms of academic probation to two terms of suspension, with the differences attributable to the varying circumstances of the individual students involved.

This winter’s Panhellenic recruitment, the second to implement more intense Rho Chi training and alterations to the call back system, ended Wednesday with 92 women receiving bids, Panhellenic vice president for public relations Jessica Ke ’15 said. One hundred and seven women registered for rush, meaning that 86 percent of those who registered received bids.
