ECAC has a new leader: SLU

(02/13/01 11:00am)

Every game counts as teams continue to grapple for postseason positioning. There were a couple blowouts and a couple nail-biters this weekend, and when the dust settled, St. Lawrence was in first place in the ECAC with 23 points. In case you want to size up the competition, or just laugh at other school's misfortune, here's what else happened this weekend in the ECAC.

Colgate, Cornell pay a visit

(01/12/01 11:00am)

After a win and a tie against the Vermont Catamounts last weekend, the Big Green appear to have their first half woes behind them as they head into this weekend. Dartmouth will be back home at Thompson to face Colgate and Cornell, two teams at opposite ends of the ECAC standings. The Colgate Red Raiders are behind the Big Green in tenth place going into this weekend, while the Cornell Big Red is 4-1-1 and in fourth.

M. hockey hits stride over break

(01/04/01 11:00am)

If not for a fourth-line freshman on the Northeastern Huskies, Dartmouth might have gone into their holiday break as the winners of three straight. The Big Green posted dramatic overtime wins against No.11 Maine on November 25th and Merrimack College on December 15th to improve their record to 3-6-0 this season, and squandered a 2-1 third period lead against Northeastern on December 9th.

XFL spells great idea

I have to admit that when I first heard about WWF owner Vince McMahon deciding to start his own football league, I thought that the idea was too crazy to believe. But that was before I realized how popular the WWF has become on this campus alone. I can name at least a dozen people who schedule their Monday nights around WWF Raw. Is that a little extreme? Probably.

Mediocre Metropolitans?

(07/03/00 9:00am)

I'm from New York and I have to say that it's about time that the Mets started to get some credit. I remember that while I was growing up, liking the Mets was almost as bad as supporting communism. But now the Mets are turning the tide of popularity in the Big Apple. As I type this, the Mets are only a game out of first place in the NL East, which is more that the Yankees can say Let's face it Yankee fans; your team's days are numbered.

Monday night makeover

(06/27/00 9:00am)

We all knew that Monday Night Football was in for a change when Boomer Esiason, fired after two seasons in March, and Don Ohlmeyer, the show's producer in the 1970s, were brought back. And now, with the addition of Dennis Miller to the booth, many fans are asking, "What are the ABC executives thinking? Who are the ad whizzes who came up with this one!?!" While many Monday night quarterbacks have their recliners in the upright position in a fit of rage over ABC's latest change, I think the addition of Miller definitely has the potential to improve the broadcast.
