The College's health insurance plan was revised for the 2012-2013 academic year to meet the PPACA requirements for preventive care coverage, according to Assistant Vice President for Finance Patricia Spellman. The plan also eliminated the lifetime individual maximum for all benefits, which had been in place in previous years, she said.

The College's early decision applicant pool decreased by 12.5 percent from last year, dropping to 1,574 applications for the Class of 2017, while the number of students offered admission remained stable at 464 students, according to Dean of Admissions and Financial Aid Maria Laskaris. The College also offered admission to a greater number of minority students, with Latino students comprising the largest increase among minority groups, she said.

The drop in applicant numbers marks a change for the College, which has seen consistently increasing numbers of early decision applicants over the past five years. The last decline occurred with the Class of 2011, when the number of early applicants fell by 2 percent from the previous year.

Public school educator Mitchell Kurz '73 was unanimously selected as a candidate for the Dartmouth Board of Trustees in a Nov. 2 vote held by the Alumni Council. Kurz is nominated to replace Peter Robinson '79, who retired this year after serving two terms as a member of the Board. Kurz emerged as a top candidate because of his dedication to teaching and service, success in his field and "enthusiasm and passion" for Dartmouth, according to Nominating Committee Chair Peter Frederick '65.

If the basic Dartmouth health insurance plan which began covering enrolled members of the Class of 2016 on Aug. 1 extended to cover dental and eye care, the majority of students would have to pay higher premiums for services they do not need or use, Turco said. Providing supplemental options to only those students needing additional services would increase the premiums significantly for those students.
