The Campus Climate and Culture Initiative, or C3I, will take effect immediately, with mandatory Title IX training for faculty and staff beginning this week along with plans to present a unified policy on sexual misconduct to the faculty by the end of the term, according to provost Joseph Helble.

Hanover’s cold winters will soon no longer freeze the training schedules of Dartmouth’s sports teams. The New Hampshire Supreme Court ruled in a decision on Nov. 6 that the Hanover planning board improperly denied the College’s application to begin construction on an indoor athletic practice facility. Following the court’s decision, the College will resume its plans to build the 70,000 square-foot facility in the open space adjacent to the Boss Tennis Center off of South Park Street.

Nearly 50 years ago, a group of Native American students approached the steps of Parkhurst Hall with a clear goal in mind — to end the use of the Dartmouth “Indian” as the College’s symbol and mascot.

The national board of directors of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity announced that it has reached a unanimous decision to pull the charter of Dartmouth’s Sig Ep chapter, closing the fraternity effective immediately. The decision comes several months after the national board initially suspended the chapter’s charter and conducted a membership review that removed around 80 percent of its members.

On Aug. 6, a former Dartmouth student filed a lawsuit against the College, alleging that he was wrongfully expelled last September following unfair disciplinary hearing procedures that breached the College’s contractual obligations to him and violated his Title IX rights. He is seeking the reversal of the College’s decision, reinstatement at the College, the expungement of his record and monetary compensation for financial and emotional damages. Prior to his expulsion, the student had expected to graduate in spring 2018.

All incoming freshmen this year now have an opportunity to track their writing and composition progress throughout their four years at Dartmouth. DartWrite, a digital writing portfolio program for undergraduate students, was automatically offered to every member of the Class of 2022 upon the start of the academic year.

Dartmouth is currently in the preliminary stages of integrating a four-year, co-curricular leadership program into its undergraduate graduation requirements. Known as the Dartmouth Leadership Project, the program is set to stipulate participation in a selection of workshops, experiential learning opportunities and a senior capstone project over the course of a Dartmouth student’s college career. It will be the first comprehensive leadership plan of its kind amongst the College’s peers.

Stephanie White was appointed as the Geisel School of Medicine’s new associate dean for diversity and inclusion by Geisel dean Duane Compton. White succeeds Leslie Henderson, who vacated the position to focus on her role as Geisel’s dean of faculty affairs.

Following last month’s vote by the University Press of New England board of governors to close down the 48-year-old publishing consortium, interim provost David Kotz ’86 and dean of libraries Susanne Mehrerhave called for the assembly of a task force to determine the future of the Dartmouth College Press.

Over 900 individuals have signed a petition opposing a joint decision by the Office of Pluralism and Leadership and the Office of Student Life to move the Pan-Asian Community resource room and Rainbow Room from their current locations on the first floor of Robinson Hall. The petition argues that the relocation of these spaces will relegate them from a central location on campus to the “physical margins of Dartmouth.” Following the demands of students, the rooms will become open reservable spaces, according to senior associate dean of student affairs Liz Agosto ’01.
