Seasons are coming to a close this week, as some of the Big Green’s fall teams are making a push for the postseason. This weekend, the football team, men’s soccer team and women’s soccer team take on Cornell University in high-stakes games with major Ivy League title implications.

This weekend is arguably the biggest of the year for Dartmouth athletics, rivaling last spring’s baseball and softball Ivy League Championship Series weekend. Four teams -— football, men’s soccer and men’s and women’s cross country — will compete for a chance at Ivy League titles this weekend, while women’s soccer and field hockey look to play their way back into the conversation. In a dominating home effort in front of a raucous Burnham Field crowd, the men’s soccer team put up four goals to none against the University of Massachusetts at Lowell on Friday. After a slow start, the Big Green (2-2-0, 0-0-0 Ivy) exploded in the second half for three goals, including two in just 1:10 to seal the victory.

In late August, while most of her peers were in the library preparing for finals, Laura Stacey ’16 packed her bags for Calgary, ready to undergo another sort of test. She was one of 22 Canadians named to the country’s women’s development team and competed against the U.S. team, losing all three matches.

The women’s golf team came in third in the Dartmouth Invitational, the team’s only home tournament this season. Jane Lee ’15 and Isabelle Kane ’18, who respectively tied for seventh and 12th, led the way to the bronze.

A two-game split in Hanover means that tomorrow’s softball doubleheader will decide the Ivy League North Division crown. After falling in eight innings to Harvard University, the team came back to walk off against the Crimson (28-13, 14-1 Ivy) in game two. The Big Green (27-16, 16-2 Ivy) now controls its destiny for the division title.

Entering the final event of the Ivy League Championships on Saturday in Ithaca, N.Y., the equestrian team trailed by just one point. Justin Maffett ’16 was up to the challenge, earning the Big Green’s only individual win of the day and giving the team its fourth ever Ivy Championship title.

In the women’s lacrosse game Monday, Hofstra University’s goalie Kelsey Gregerson stopped two shots in the final 30 seconds to secure a 9-8 Pride (6-8) win. The Big Green (5-7, 2-3 Ivy) was done in by a 1-3 day in free position shots and 12 turnovers in its final non-conference game of the season.

The men’s rugby team destroyed Harvard University 52-3 at Scully-Fahey Field on Saturday to win the Ivy League 15s championship for the seventh year in a row.

The women’s hockey team begins its final homestand tonight, hosting No. 5 Harvard University at Thompson Arena. Next weekend, the Big Green (7-15-1, 6-10-1) remains at home to play St. Lawrence University and No. 3 Clarkson University before hitting the road to finish the season against Brown University and Yale University.

The men’s and women’s rugby teams hosted Ivy League championship matches this past weekend. While the previously undefeated women lost their first match of the year, the men won the North Division 7s tournament. The team will now travel to Princeton, N.J., for Ivy championships next weekend.
