In 2022 — the fall of her freshman year — New York-native Olivia Pichardo tried out for the Brown University baseball team, despite its historically men-only roster. Pichardo ultimately made the cut, joining the spring roster and becoming the first women to play NCAA Division I baseball in the division’s history. Pichardo also joined the USA Baseball Women’s National Team in 2022.

Following a seventh place finish in the Ivy League last season, the Big Green softball team has struggled to gain traction this year. The team enters the spring term with a 4-9 record, following two tournaments, as well as games against Harvard University and Boston College.

After a weekend when Dartmouth successfully secured home ice in the opening round of the ECAC playoffs, men’s ice hockey hosted Brown University on Friday and Yale University for Senior Night on Saturday to end regular season play. The Big Green finished victorious in both games, defeating Brown 5-3 and Yale 4-1 to snatch the last, first-round bye in the ECAC playoffs.

This weekend, men’s hockey hosted Eastern College Athletic Conference opponents Clarkson University and St. Lawrence University at Thompson Arena. The Big Green shut out the Golden Knights 3-0 and tied the Saints 4-4. The Big Green then won the six-round shoot-out against St. Lawrence to gain a point in the Ivy League standings.

This past weekend, men’s hockey hosted ECAC opponents Colgate University and No. 13 Cornell University at Thompson Arena. The Big Green took both games to overtime, losing 3-4 to Colgate but beating Cornell in the shoot-out.

On Saturday night, Dartmouth men’s ice hockey hosted the University of Vermont at Thompson Arena to conclude their non-conference match-ups for the 2023-2024 season. In front of a sold-out crowd, the Big Green pulled through to deliver a 4-3 win over the Catamounts, increasing their record to 4-4-6.

On Friday, Nov. 3, Dartmouth men’s hockey hosted nationally ranked No. 8 Quinnipiac University at Thompson Arena, tying 2-2 and then winning 1-0 in a shootout. The following day, the Big Green defeated the Tigers of Princeton University 5-4, with CJ Foley ’27 scoring the game-winning goal with less than a minute remaining.

Despite this being her first race since last year’s Ivy League Heptagonal Championship, HEPS, cross country runner Ellie Tymorek ’25 placed first in the Women’s Championship 5k Individual race at the New England Championship, held at Franklin Park in Boston on Saturday, Oct. 7.

This past weekend, men’s tennis traveled to New Haven to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Regionals at Yale University. The Big Green faced off against 13 other collegiate teams.

On Sept. 30, Dartmouth softball traveled to Southern New Hampshire University to open up their preseason for a double header fall ball game. The Big Green dominated, winning 17-3 against SNHU and 8-2 against Bentley University.

This weekend, men’s tennis welcomed Boston University, Brown University and Williams College to compete at the Dartmouth Invitational at the Thompson Outdoor Courts, marking the home opener for the 2023-2024 season. On their home turf, the Big Green came out on top in their singles, winning 18 out of 23 matches, but struggled to find the rhythm in their doubles — only winning two of six matches.

The College offers a variety of different athletic opportunities, with 35 Division I Varsity sports, 34 club sports teams and many intramural sports offerings. Although many athletes are recruited, any student can become a walk-on athlete with the right amount of talent and dedication. Several students shared their experiences on crossing the line from NARPdom to student-athlete after arriving at Dartmouth.

The Big Green fell to Sacred Heart University in its final two games, finishing the season with the program’s largest losing streak ever and an overall 3-38 record.

On Saturday, April 29, despite falling behind in the two first games against Brown University, Dartmouth was able to preserve through the third and take their first Ivy League win with an extraordinary pitching performance by Clark Gilmore ’24. With their weekend win, Big Green baseball ended their 27 game losing streak.

The Big Green women’s softball team fell to Princeton University at the Dartmouth Softball Park for their final home series this season. The double header on Friday started off strong in the Big Green’s favor, but the Tigers were able to shift momentum by clinching the following two games.

Dartmouth wins two out of three games in their series against Brown University to advance to fourth place in the Ivy League, taking Yale University’s spot. The Bears took the last game of the series on Sunday, winning 6-5 due to a walk-off sacrifice fly. Dartmouth built momentum again against Merrimack College on Wednesday, winning 5-2.
