Needing to rebound after two disappointing home losses to open the Ivy League season, the No. 54 men’s tennis team entered this weekend on a four-game losing streak. It left with two consecutive 5-2 wins, taking down No. 30 Princeton University on Saturday and the University of Pennsylvania on Sunday.

Facing some of the strongest competition in the Ivy League in the opening weekend of conference play, the No. 54 men’s tennis team fell to No. 22 Columbia University 6-1 on Saturday and lost to No. 51 Cornell University 5-2 on Sunday to bring its overall season record to 9-10 and its Ivy League record to 0-2.

This weekend, the men’s tennis team will commence the Ivy League slate of its 2015 season. The Big Green, ranked No. 50 by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, will have the home-court advantage as it looks to build on a strong 9-8 pre-conference record heading into Saturday’s match against No. 28 Columbia University and Sunday’s match versus No. 55 Cornell University.

The final weekend of games for the women’s basketball team was fitting for the season, representing the up-and-down nature of gameplay the team has seen in the last few months. Having endured winning streaks of four and five games and losing skids of four and six, the Big Green dismantled Brown University 71-53 this past Friday only to receive a drubbing itself, 53-28 against Yale University 24 hours later. Nevertheless, the 2014-15 season still featured marked progress from one year ago. The team’s 14-14 overall record stands in stark contrast to last year’s 5-23 record, pointing to a program on the rise.

For all of the peaks and valleys the women’s basketball team has endured this season, this past weekend’s games carried extra meaning. Not only was it a chance to properly send off the senior class in its final two home games and get back to the .500 win percentage mark for the year, but it also provided an opportunity for a step in a positive direction in the program’s second year under head coach Belle Koclanes. In unequivocally dominant fashion, the Big Green did just that, trouncing Columbia University 60-50 on Friday night and Cornell University 54-35 less than 24 hours later.

Seeking to build on a victory that snapped a month-long losing streak one week ago, the Dartmouth women’s basketball team found itself in the toughest portion of its Ivy League schedule — travelling to play the two top-ranked teams in its conference. After losing to the No. 14 Princeton University Tigers by 70-31, and falling to the Pennsylvania University Quakers 63-46, the team will now regroup with an eye on finishing the last four games of the season on a strong note.

Looking to regain its early season form and snap a five-game losing streak, the Dartmouth women’s basketball team headed to New York this past weekend for the middle two games in its Ivy League schedule. While the first matchup ended in yet another loss — 66-46 to Cornell University — the women delivered a monumental victory in the second, edging Columbia University 61-54 in overtime.

After defeating Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts to kick off Ivy League play on Jan. 10, the Dartmouth women’s basketball team suffered three consecutive home losses to Ivy League opponents, seeing its strongest start to a season in nine years come to a sour end. After suffering their first loss to Harvard in a rematch on Jan. 24, the Big Green will now look to regroup after losses to the University of Pennsylvania, 55-39, and Princeton University, 83-65.

After putting themselves on the scoreboard with Amber Mixon’s ’18 layup only seconds into the game, the Dartmouth women’s basketball team led the Harvard Crimson for all but 1:01 of the remaining 40 minutes of action on Saturday night. However, a furious late-game comeback by the visitors would change all of that.

In a three-team swim meet last Saturday in Hanover, the swimming and diving program got off to a poor start to begin its Ivy League schedule. Swimming for the first time this season in its own Karl Michael Pool, the men’s team fell by scores of 216-84 to Yale University and 169-130 to University of Pennsylvania, while the women’s team lost 243-57 to Yale and 216-84 to Penn.

As fall term concluded, the Dartmouth men’s soccer team wrapped up its most successful campaign in four years. Hosting a National Collegiate Athletic Association tournament game for the first time since 2008, the Big Green (12-5-2, 5-1-1 Ivy) won a thrilling opening round match against Fordham University 2-1 before falling to Providence College 0-3 on the road.

A resurgent 2014 season came to a grinding halt for the men’s soccer team on Sunday night. Playing in the second round of the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2010, the Big Green fell to host Providence College 3-0, with all three goals occurring in a span of 31 minutes in the second half.

Alex Adelabu ’15 played the role of hero once again for men’s soccer team on Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The senior and leading scorer notched the go-ahead goal in the 87th minute to lift Dartmouth to a 2-1 victory over Fordham University and into the second round.

As the horn sounded on the final regular season game, the men’s soccer team was greeted on one side by fellow players on the bench, and on the other by zealous fans charging onto the pitch. For the first time in three years, the Big Green captured a share of the Ivy League title Saturday night by defeating the Brown University Bears 3-0, and by virtue of a tiebreaker atop the standings, a berth in the NCAA tournament as well.

The final scene at Burnham Field on Saturday night could not have been more telling. In the waning seconds of the overtime clash between the Ivy League’s top soccer teams, Dartmouth and Harvard University (9-4-2, 2-1-2 Ivy), the final whistle left Big Green players sprawled out on the pitch, completely spent after a grueling 1-1 (2OT) draw, and a particularly draining final sequence.

Despite faltering in its fourth overtime game of the year, the Big Green has demonstrated offensive potential, and players remain hopeful heading into Saturday’s Ivy League opener.

Once the fall soccer season ends, Alex Adelabu ’15 is looking to devote himself to acting and yoga, learn how to swim and continue to focus on his Christian faith. Until then, the Big Green striker hopes to wreak havoc on the pitch and lead the Big Green (2-2) to an Ivy title and the NCAA Tournament.
