On August 25, Dartmouth Dining Service supervisor Gordon Wright died, according to a message from senior vice president for capital planning and operations Josh Keniston. The message appears on the new “in memoriam” page on the Office of the President Dartmouth website. Wright was 64 years old, according to his obituary.
On Monday morning, a truck crashed into Ripley Hall — a residence hall for undergraduate students — according to the Hanover Police Department. After an assessment of the damaged wall from the collision, Ripley Hall will continue to house students this coming fall, according to an email statement from College media relations strategist Jana Barnello.

In addition to the numerous student bands, student DJs make sure that music is always pumping throughout campus. DJ culture on campus draws on the efforts of individual DJs, collectives and clubs introducing students to DJing. Disc jockeys on campus said the College’s music scene depends on the craft of student performers and their individual styles. Student DJ Spencer Watson ’25, whose DJ name is Spence, said that the DJ community on campus is stylistically diverse.
As an undergraduate-focused R1 institution, Dartmouth sits at an intersection between research and teaching. According to some professors, the College prioritizes both aspects of the “teacher scholar mindset,” encouraging professors to equally prioritize their research and undergraduate teaching. This model provides several advantages, such as collaboration with other professors across disciplines, teaching that inspires novel research and access to substantial funding.
