Every time I log on to Banner Student's DegreeWorks, I see a stark reminder of my "classification" at Dartmouth: junior. I casually sailed through sophomore summer and took comfort in its name, which distracted me from the reality that my college career is halfway over. As the summer haze recedes, we face a still distant but looming "real world" filled with exciting prospects and daunting challenges, taking comfort in not being seniors just yet. As students, we construct our own world as a bubble and live the proverbial dream beyond which another reality awaits. I don't understand why, but I've always differentiated Hanover from the "real world" out there, with the Dartmouth Coach acting like a Hogwarts Express of sorts.

The Nobel Peace Prize, perhaps at one time a universally admired achievement, has managed to take yet another step toward becoming a complete farce. Just three years after granting a newly elected Barack Obama the Prize for little more than the content of his campaign speeches, the Norwegian politicians that comprise the Nobel Committee gave the award to the European Union, a decision that left much of the world scratching its collective head in confusion.

Princeton University seniors Jeff Morell and Catherine Ettman will serve as undergraduate representatives on the search committee that will select the university's 20th president, according to The Daily Princetonian. Princeton is one of three Ivy league schools, in addition to Dartmouth and Yale University, that are searching for new presidents. The search committee, which includes nine trustees, four faculty members, one graduate student and one staff member, has 17 members in total. Princeton's undergraduate student government selected Morell and Ettman from the 48 seniors who applied for the position. The search committee is expected to make its decision in March, nearly eight months after President Shirley Tilghman announced her resignation effective June 2013, according to The Dartmouth. The search committee for Dartmouth's next president includes one appointed current student, Student Body President Suril Kantaria '13, who was not selected by an application process.
