After figure skating throughout high school, women's crew captain Sarah Alexander 10 was looking to try a different sport at Dartmouth. While waiting in the computer line during her freshman year Orientation, she was approached by the novice women's crew coach, who suggested trying out as a walk-on. Alexander took this advice, and is now one of many walk-on athletes on the Big Green.

Former Dartmouth sailing team members Sarah Johnston '09 and Anne Megargel '09 were named to the 2009 Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association's All-Academic second team on Wednesday, DartmouthSports.com reported. The honor is given to student-athletes who were nominated by their schools for their academic and athletic performance during the 2008-09 academic year. The ICSA All-Academic team recognizes 10 first team and 10 second team student-athletes who are in their junior year of college or above, have maintained a GPA of at least 3.5 out of 4.0 and are key members of their school's sailing team, according to an ICSA release. Johnston and Megargel were both members of the Dartmouth team that finished eighth at the ICSA National Championship Regatta last season.

With all of the parties and drunkenness and frat angels and screaming at freshmen and giant burning structures and creepy alums and and pig roasts and people trying to get the decade at pig roasts this weekend, a lot of people forget Homecoming's original purpose: to support our sports teams. Almost all of Dartmouth's teams are playing in Hanover on Friday, Saturday or Sunday. Here are some of the best games to go see:

When thinking about the most dominant sports team at Dartmouth, the Big Green men's soccer team jumps out to me as the best that Dartmouth has to offer. Not only is it an actual varsity team, but the competition the team faces, as well as the up-and-coming stars that make up the team, prove that men's soccer clearly holds the edge above any other Big Green squad.

In my mind, we really shouldn't even be having this debate. If we are considering all Dartmouth fall sports, both club and varsity, it's pretty obvious that the Dartmouth men's rugby team is by far the most dominant. They absolutely destroy everybody else they play, and are undefeated in the Ivy League this year. Arguing that men's rugby isn't the most dominant fall sports team is like when Mets fans try arguing that the Yankees aren't the best baseball team in New York it's just naive.

Four years ago, Herve Metsam '12 was a standout basketball player and student at his school in Cameroon, but he did not once think about playing college basketball in America. This year, he hopes to help Dartmouth win its first Ivy League title in over 50 years.
