We all know the stereotypes: the bakers, the pearl-sporting polo wearers, the girls who can out-drink the boys. Dartmouth's sororities have always been a source for the endless parade of labels, and I think most of the women about whom these stories are told are pretty tired of hearing them. But to what extent are these stereotypes true?

The College and the University of New Hampshire received a $100,000 grant to support a cooperative college and university network which would help them meet environmental health and safety requirements at local, state and federal levels. The three-year grant, given by the Davis Educational Foundation, goes towards the New Hampshire College and University Assistance Cooperative. The grant supports audits at each institution to ensure environmental regulatory compliance, and will also fund the development of a website for the hiring and sharing of a student intern to assist with the audits and collect information. Michael Blayney, the College's director of environmental health and safety, said that the eventual goal of the network is to develop a comprehensive Environmental Management System for all New Hampshire colleges and universities, which each institution could adapt to its own needs. The EMS would include elements such as hazardous materials source reduction and substitution, emergency planning and transportation demand reduction.

This Saturday marks what organizers hope will be the beginning of a new sophomore summer tradition: Fieldstock. Starting with chariot races on the Green at 3 p.m., the event also includes an EBAs barbecue, a cover band, mud wrestling and volleyball on the Bema.

We have weird ways of constructing masculinity on campus. It seems to involve drinking a lot of light beer, sometimes throwing things or chanting and having themed events that involve girls showing up better than naked (I'm looking at you, porn star tails).

So don't succumb to the final crunch just yet! Our picks for this week will pack in the last bit of summer buzz.

Dear Chris and Anna,

So, we are paying 40,000 dollars a year to be educated. Is it really happening? We took a moment to reflect on what we remember from our classes so far. Either our memories are failing us or the system is. Or maybe it's a combo of both?

Evenings cool and days shorten, finals and formals approach and everybody acts personally betrayed by the arrival of August. Summer is ending. Worse, sophomore summer is ending. It's disorienting to have something that you've been looking forward to for so long become a memory, but in the 37 seconds that was July, that is apparently what happened.
